What Is Empathy?
According to Psychology Today, “Empathy is the experience of understanding another person’s thoughts, feelings, and condition from their point of view, rather than from your own. You try to imagine yourself in their place in order to understand what they are feeling or experiencing. Empathy facilitates prosocial (helping) behaviors that come from within, rather than being forced, so that we behave in a more compassionate manner.”
Is There Any Science Behind Empathetic People?
“Researchers have discovered a specialized group of brain cells that are responsible for compassion. These cells enable everyone to mirror emotions, to share another person’s pain, fear, or joy. Because empaths are thought to have hyper-responsive mirror neurons, we deeply resonate with other people’s feelings” says Psychology Today.
Why Do They Find Some People Annoying?
Empaths are highly sensitive individuals who seldom stand up for themselves. They are usually very timid and observe everything. Even when they face people who wear a pleasant mask, they understand in an instant but do not make it obvious. When they meet pushovers who are desperate to be accepted, people who mask their anger to appear calm, people who build a wall to make up for their insecurities, people who try really hard to merge, attention seekers, and hypocritical sycophants, empaths go numb. They do not understand how to react.
How Do They Deal With The World?
1. They Avoid Fake People
Empaths will rather take a different path all together than face a two faced person. They cannot stand opportunist people who only think about themselves. Fake people deeply disturb the well being of empaths and burden them with unwanted negativity.
2. Sound Of Silence.
They will rather keep their mouth shut than open if to explain a situation to a completely fake person. The latter will mould the truth spoken according to their whim and pull the empaths down in the gutter. This is why silence speaks louder than words. Empaths know how to use the shield of silence to protect their easily influenced soul. They do not want to lose their sleep over a petty fight with an insignificant individual.
3. Physical Ailments
Sometimes they feel physically sick while interacting with hypocrites. They have panic attacks, anxiety attacks, feel nauseous, suffer from severe headaches and even feel nauseous. Empaths are susceptible to the energy fields of people. Fake people carry a lot of negative energy in their body and can’t chanelise them properly. This makes their aura impure and affects the sensitive souls when they come in contact. The pent up energy should be let out for a cathartic experience.
4. Utter Chaos
They end up being confused. They stutter and act weird because they cannot make sense of things. They will try to change the topic to something more wholesome to avoid the chaotic situation.
This is the most common response of empaths, they want to run away from the site of conflict. They do not want to revel in the distress and the wounds in their heart will never fade if they interact with negative people. Empaths also need time to heal from intense emotional conversations as it drains them. They run to save themselves from a breakdown.
How They Should Deal With The World:
1. Say No
You owe nothing to other people. The reason you end up exhausting yourself is because you exert too much pressure. You have to learn to say “no” to people who want to exploit you and nothing else.
2. Put Yourself First
You save everyone, but who saves you? You don’t have to be the hero, prioritise yourself over others. You need your own attention and empathy. If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t lend a helping hand ever.
4. Don’t Let Flattery Get To You
People will try to flatter you into doing things for them and you’ll eventually fall sick because of too much pressure. You have to learn to Differentiate genuine compliments from false praises.
