A few years ago, a video of stunning glass sculptures went viral, and soon after the world learned about the remarkable Los Angeles-based artist, Jack Storms.
After acquiring his degree in Art, Jack took up a job that made him fall in love with this art form, and he realized that it was something he would love to do for the rest of his life.
He has mastered a phenomenally rare style of glass art work combining lead crystal and dichroic glass using a cold-glass process. He is probably one of the very few artist who tackled such a challenging form of art.
”What I do is I don’t use any heat at all, I grind and grind and grind and then I polish, that’s what separates me from everybody else. It’s much more difficult and it takes a lot more time. But for me the effects are just brilliant.”
Creating the perfect piece requires time, skill and a lot of dedication. Because of the labor involved and the level of perfection each piece can take from 8 to 18 weeks to complete.
Drawing inspiration from both his heart and his mind when conceiving his artistic designs, at the heart of each lead crystal sculpture by Jack Storms lays the theory of Fibonacci, a great mathematician that articulated the natural math seen in nature. Natural beauty is created, not manufactured. From the repetition florets of a flower to the scales of a pineapple’s skin, Fibonacci numbers are found in the pattern of growth of every living thing in nature.
