Grab a fresh bouquet of flowers to commemorate May’s upcoming full Flower Moon, which will also be the first lunar eclipse of 2023. Surrounding yourself with buds and blooms will lift your spirits, as this fated lunation will mark the end of a cycle that began in October 2022.
One of the many benefits of astrology is that the cosmos provides us with two lunar monthly checkpoints to consider our progress. The new moon, for example, typically corresponds with a new cycle or chapter that will unfold over the next six months. Setting intentions and manifestations around a new moon is the best-recommended practice for making the most of this lunation because it is an excellent time for new beginnings. The full moon, which marks the end of a cycle that began six months ago, would be the other checkpoint. When full moons take over the night sky, you may experience a profound sense of nostalgia as you reflect on what has occurred during the lunar cycle. As the full moon brings everything to a close, you may feel extremely emotional as you let go of this cycle.
Every full moon has a spiritual significance as well as an astrological correlation. The full moon in May is referred to as the “Flower Moon” because it coincides with the blooming of flowers across North America. This lunation, true to its spiritual name, represents the peak of springtime, so the old adage “April showers bring May flowers” will undoubtedly ring true during this lunation. With spring in full swing, the Flower Moon will feel upbeat and exciting as it welcomes new life!
The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio, Explained
The full moon will rise at 14 degrees Scorpio on May 5 at 1:34 p.m. ET (17:34 GMT). This lunation is unique in that it doubles as a penumbral lunar eclipse. When the Earth blocks some of the sun’s rays from illuminating the moon, a penumbral lunar eclipse occurs. As a result, the moon will be obscured by Earth’s shadow, also known as the penumbra. However, because the moon will appear a few shades darker than usual, this type of eclipse may be difficult to detect. So, unless you have a keen eye, it may not appear to be anything other than a full moon! Not to mention that this will be the last eclipse in Scorpio until 2031, so take advantage of this lunar event.
Apart from being an eclipse, the full moon in Scorpio will oppose the fixed sun in Taurus. Scorpio and Taurus share a few characteristics, such as determination, desire, and security. When the scorpion and the bull clash, it may be a strong indication to go with the most stable option. However, because the Taurus-Scorpio axis can be stubborn, it may be difficult to choose what you want to focus on. As the sun in Taurus prioritizes your values and the moon in Scorpio purges through emotional release, you may be able to decide what is worth the long-term commitment. Because this could be an emotionally charged battle, don’t be surprised if you shed a few tears to remember everything you’ve gone through to get to where you want to go.
Given that this is a reactive lunation, the last six months will be remembered when releasing the past and purging negative energy during the full-moon-lunar-eclipse. Scorpio rules intimacy, shared wealth, taboo topics, and transcendence, so these themes may have been prevalent over the last six months. For some, this may have been a cycle in which they focused on genuine intimacy rather than messy entanglements. This eclipse cycle may have also addressed the financial elephant in the room, such as debt relief or becoming more financially literate in order to make the most of your assets. Taboo topics could have come up, ranging from sharing secrets to delving into occult matters. Whatever the case, Scorpio’s transformative quality has been evident, as this cycle would have encouraged death and rebirth to transcend the mundane.
Because the full moon rises on Venus’s day, it may allude to a focus on Venusian themes such as love, money, and pleasure. In astrology, Venus is considered a minor benefic, so this is typically auspicious planetary energy to work with. The magical connection with the lunation’s day may encourage dedication to using the Scorpionic darkness to create something beautiful and otherworldly. Creativity, like human life itself, begins in darkness.
Although the full moon can form other aspects, this one does not have any tight aspects with the other transiting planets. While this may appear to be boring at first, keep in mind that this lunation also serves as an eclipse, so not having additional factors to consider allows us to appreciate the ecliptic energy for what it is. With this in mind, it would be best to observe and detach from this lunation. Eclipses are an omen for powerful and unpredictable fated events, so as the six-month cycle concludes, this full moon will have an element of uncertainty. Take note of what appears three days before and three days after the lunation in the spirit of this eclipse. Be willing to let go of anything that no longer serves your highest good!
