I heard a quote the other day that really made me think:
“Do not fear the winds of adversity. Remember: A kite rises against the wind rather than with it” – Unknown Author
Life is difficult; there is really no way around it. Terrible things happen every day, and yes, there are some ways to sugar coat a bad situation, but I believe the best way to heal through adversity is to react honestly.
I feel that society nowadays try to hide their true feelings and react how the think they should in order to stay “positive”. I feel like the word “positive” has lost it’s meaning, like the word “fresh” that is plastered on all of our chemically induced produce.
Being positive means being human, and if a situation is tough for you, the best thing you can do to heal is admit that you are having a hard time. Your loved ones and friends will be there for you, and I am sure they won’t mind helping you out. I am not here to say that you should lose all hope if a situation doesn’t go your way. No, I am trying to say that staying true to you through adversity is the best possible solution…
Years ago when I was 19, I was diagnosed with cancer. That sucked. Big time. But a funny thing happened, I didn’t react like a “woe is me, why am I a victim!”. No, I started writing the day I was diagnosed, something inside me told me to “pick up a pen”.
Through chemotherapy, I finally found my voice, while at the same time I was losing all my hair. It’s strange because one of the worst things that happened to me in life, was oddly one of my biggest gifts that the Universe has given me. Had I not been diagnosed, I am pretty sure that my writing would have hit a plateau and I would still be writing absurd sketch ideas on pizza boxes.
I feel that in order to grow spiritually you must go through adversity. Anyone who experiences nothing but bliss is someone who is lying to you, but mostly to themselves. Life is about getting dirty and fighting, no one ever said life would be easy but a lot of people sure do say that life is beautiful. I happen to subscribe to the latter of the two theories.
Do you have a spiritual adversity that you overcame and would like to share?
