Protect yourself from the stress of the holiday season.

What exactly is radical self-care, and how can one start incorporating it into their daily routine?

Politics, social unrest, and natural catastrophes… No way! You have to deal with the stress of daily life on top of the constant barrage of bad news.

It can be challenging to maintain a grounded and optimistic outlook when confronted with all that. However, increasing your self-care routine significantly will help you remain rational and composed throughout the holiday season.

It’s not selfish to take care of yourself. Paying attention to your physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual needs is the key.

While getting ready for the holidays, try these five radical ways to practice self-care:

1. Make it a point to go outside somewhere during the middle of the day.

It is impossible to overstate the importance of grounding oneself by sitting on Mother Earth.

Simply going for a stroll around the neighborhood or through your backyard is enough to get your creative juices flowing and clear your mind.

2. Always store a bottle of water on your work desk.

In addition to improving your digestion and absorption of vitamins and nutrients, you will also be detoxifying your liver and kidneys at the same time.

According to the opinions of some nutritionists, eighty percent of the population is dehydrated. So, get some liquids!

3. Set aside some time during which you will not be using your phone.

Simply take five slow, deep breaths in and out.

In the event that nothing else happens, you will be re-oxygenating and re-activating your brain cells, which will allow you to be prepared to take on the next challenge, initiative, or phone call.

4. Make a secluded space for your work that is all your own.

Those of you who work from home should pay particular attention to this requirement.

Using innovative design concepts, non-toxic materials, natural fibers, full-spectrum lighting, Feng Shui, and technologies that purify air and water, you can breathe new life into your space.

5. Read the business classic written by Steven Covey.

“The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” is the title of this program.

Pay special attention to his final principle, which is called “sharpening the saw.” According to Covey, this principle involves “exercising all four dimensions of our nature [physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual] regularly and consistently in wise and balanced ways.”

Within the framework of his model, this behavior extends to encompass all of the others because it is the one that enables all of the others to exist.

The fact that so few of us actually engage in self-care is what gives it a radical quality.

Prioritizing the needs of others has been instilled in us.

It appears like a lot of people, especially women, have internalized this harmful little socialization.

If left untreated, this propensity can lead to complete codependency in one or more of your relationships.

In the midst of getting ready for the crazy holiday season, what can we do to get back on track mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually?

Make room for a holy place.

Setting aside some quiet time to focus on yourself is a good place to start.

Put yourself in a comfortable chair, heat some tea or hot chocolate, put on some music, and maybe even light a candle.

Now is the time to write down all the self-care activities you can do in the lovely journal you purchased for contemplation.

Write down all the things that bring you joy, whether they’re physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual. You can organize them into categories or just write them down.

Keep things simple, like going for a walk every day, reading poetry, or even just flossing. Make a grand plan, like going to the spa, organizing your closet, or enrolling in a class.

Lose control and unleash your imagination. “Oh, I could never…” or “I just don’t have the time for that!” Put an end to all those pesky thoughts racing through your mind.

And if you still need help, there are a plethora of articles and tips available online.

Making a plan for comprehensive, radical self-care is the goal.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed and in need of a break, you can refer to your list for a sanity check.

In the midst of your hectic workday, consider how you can practice radical self-care so that you can face the holidays with enthusiasm and preparedness.

Making changes to your self-care list so that it emphasizes practices you can bring to your job is a good place to start.

The world seems to be on fire right now, and you might not have the power to change that.

If you’re not already, maybe the holidays will be a time of joy and optimism after you recommit to taking care of yourself.
