Today, even spiritual growth has been turned into a consumer product—something the ego’s survival instinct eagerly embraces.
The same ego that once chased money and power has now turned toward “spiritual development,” donning the robe of the spiritual ego.
It’s subtle. It’s refined. And precisely because of that, it’s harder to detect. The spiritual ego doesn’t seek attention loudly, but it still wants to be seen as special.
It no longer craves wealth but clings to its “knowledge.” It doesn’t boast overtly but quietly expects others to admire it.

This ego doesn’t build its identity from money or status anymore, but from ideas like “I’m further along,” “I’ve seen what you haven’t,” and “I understand unity now.”
And just like that, the spiritual path becomes yet another playground for the personal self.
The marketplace mentality—capable of turning anything into a product—has done its work here too: spiritual courses, retreats, certifications, and master titles have become the new status symbols. True, quiet inner realization is often replaced by “what can I say about it.”

And so the search—which was originally about recognizing your formless Self—starts generating forms again. Experiences, rankings, labels. And the mind sits back contentedly, saying, “Now I know who I am.”
But consciousness doesn’t live in titles. It doesn’t appear at the end of a course. It’s not revealed through rituals, words, or others’ recognition. It appears in silence.
When there is no “someone” who wants to awaken. When nothing special happens—just presence.
And that is what the spiritual ego cannot tolerate.
Because in that space, there is no glory, no brilliance, and no standing out. Only vastness. Only openness. Only not knowing. And that is what the ego fears most—that it will disappear.
That’s why, today more than ever, it’s essential to be radically honest with yourself. The spiritual ego isn’t “bad”—it’s simply a final defense. A subtle grip you haven’t yet dared to release.
But the moment will come when you no longer wish to play. When you no longer want to prove, to know, or to be anything. Only to fall back into what you’ve always been.
