Geminis have a bad reputation. They are frequently described as flaky, fickle, two-faced, or duplicitous. Some people boast that they will never date a Gemini. There’s even a new book out called Never Trust A Gemini.
This is, of course, unjust. But, like all narratives that become entrenched in the popular imagination, such “truths” are difficult to shake. We will, however, shake this Gemini narrative. Why? So you can align with this New Moon on June 18th and see that the Twins’ energy is more than just frenetic cattiness or snide back-biting.
Instead, consider this Gemini New Moon to be an excellent time to set intentions around business-related themes such as trading, commerce, negotiation, sweet-talking clients, and displaying more wit and playfulness on social media to lighten your brand’s mood.
The astrological explanation is that we need to take a step back. Context is everything, especially when it comes to Astrology. Each New or Full Moon has a ruling planet (similar to a CEO for that lunation). Mercury, the speedster, is the Moon’s CEO in the case of this New Moon. This is because Mercury is always the ruler of Gemini. Mercury will also rule the Moon as it transits the sign of the Twins.
Mercury is now a complicated and fascinating planet. It’s the one that moves the fastest, constantly changing, hustling, going retrograde, getting too close to the Sun, burning up and burning out. We associate this speed with conveyances, communications, commerce, and anything else involving quick movement between things.
When Mercury is ill-dignified (afflicted by inauspicious aspects with other planets or signs), its influence on us becomes “troublesome…Phrenetick… [with our] tongue and Pen against every man,” in the words of the great Renaissance astrologer William Lily. Furthermore, we may be prone to lying, prattling, falsehoods, and nosiness. In other words, we’re channeling the unjust Gemini from the beginning of this article.
Mercury’s influence, however, activates “intellect and cogitation,” energizes “much eloquence in speech,” and inspires a “genius to produce wonders” when it is well-placed or “dignified” (meaning it does not have bad aspects afflicting it).
The question now is whether we will have frenetic/bad or brilliant/good Mercury for this Gemini New Moon. Of course, the answer is dependent on what the Messenger Planet is doing transit-wise. Is it retrograde (unfavorable)? Or is it transiting a sign with which it has little in common (say, Cancer or Taurus)? If either of these answers is “yes,” we can expect a nasty little Moon.
Fortunately, Mercury is currently “home” in Gemini. A planet in its “home” or rulership state is powerful and productive. All of that planet’s good qualities are enhanced, while it is protected from negative energies/enemies. People who were born with Mercury in Gemini are generally endowed with the wonderful gift of gab. This is the type of person you want to entertain your dinner guests with tall tales and witty asides. It’s basically the Zodiac’s Oscar Wilde. Mercury is also moving quickly and directly (another plus), indicating that things can move quickly, connecting, doing deals, and gaining traction. Or having that wonderful retort ready at the perfect moment.
It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that this is one of the best New Moons of the year, a time to fully align with Mercurial/Gemini’s unencumbered, super-charged positive power. Put yourself in a position to have others over on this New Moon so you can play the witty host (this is a social moon).
Because Mercury rules speech and communication, this Moon indicates a good time to plan an essay, a chapter of your next book, a public relations campaign, or a series of social media posts.
And, because Gemini is such a flexible sign (it’s our mutable air sign), this is also a good time for nimble business negotiations or deal-making, whether in the marketplace of goods and services or ideas.
The Moon has a soft, warm, and caring nature. This is a romantic transit for looking into a fantasy with a partner that involves communication in all its forms–from risqué pillow talk to loving, sweet nothings spoken during the afterglow of heavy petting–when combined with a happy and ever curious Mercury-in-Gemini.
Enjoy.
