Continually shifting, the sky is never still. Everything that happens over our heads, is also evident around us and within us. In recent weeks, and especially in these days, the planetary configurations are really strong. Mars, the planet of aggression, strength, will and desire conjunct with Pluto in Aquarius.
Bringing about a world that is more just and equitable is not something that we are lacking in terms of our brilliance, creative prowess, passion, or desire.
In addition, we do not lack teachers who are willing to pass on the knowledge that they have acquired, blueprints of what has worked and why it has worked, or blueprints of what has failed and when it has failed. The data and facts that demonstrate how severely incompetent and violent the systems that we live within are not lacking in our possession. There are real-time images of unimaginable destruction that are readily available to us. We have all of the evidence that we require to demonstrate that the world is prepared for a reset.
The incredible speed with which words and images can travel through social media makes it a truly remarkable tool. It ensures that we reach the rallies and marches on time, that power is snatched away from large media conglomerates, and that issues that would otherwise go unnoticed are brought to light.
To an extent, it allows us to change culture in ways that have never been seen before.
To make changes that stick, we need to put in the time and effort, build bridges, and be able to deal with setbacks, feel terrible, and grieve. Things that can’t be taught, and even diminished, on the internet. Because algorithms personalize our feeds based on what we like, we’ve learned to ignore or unfollow content that doesn’t meet our standards. That encompasses all of us. It fosters the idea that we can curate a life as naively as a face filter, that everything should be just the way we imagine it to be, and that our actions and the people in them should reflect this ideal.
That is far from the truth of life.
Although social media has many positive aspects, it has also brought us the problem of confirmation bias. A pretense that one’s real life should be picture-perfect, like a well-crafted post, slogan, or internet meme. A dopamine rush from our phones entices us to numb out when conflict emerges, leaving us with little tolerance for pain. Feelings of inadequacy are normal when life (as it so often does) highlights our inexperience or lack of competence. Our online spaces encourage us to vent our virtuous anger rather than confront these issues head-on. Instead of facing the fear and shame that often come with being human and growing, we participate in a group sport where we insult complete strangers online over poorly read, misinterpreted, taken out of context, or otherwise unimportant sentiments. In addition to being a waste of time and energy, it also guarantees that we will lose any bigger battle that we are fighting for.
Mars Conjunct Pluto in Aquarius
This week marks the beginning of a new cycle as Mars and Pluto unite in Aquarius, marking the first such conjunction in two hundred years. Mars is the god of war, while Pluto is the god of the underworld, metamorphosis, and strength. When put together, they represent resolve. The hallmark of the supreme strategist in Aquarius is a doggedness that is cerebral, technical, and maybe even communal.
When it comes to Aquarius, patience is key. The word “fixed” describes it perfectly; its defining feature is thus absolute certainty. However, this is not merely an attribute of the Aquarius personality; it is a result of the rigorous ways in which the sign directs its mental energy. Mars in Sagittarius is like a duelist who knows its system inside and out. Unlike any other strategy, its battle plan is comprehensive.
We need to reevaluate our focus, energy, and whom or what we are studying in light of this Mars-Pluto conjunction and whether or not it will bring us closer to our goal. It’s a message from on high to make the most of our education so that we can defeat oppressors and bullies, stay one step ahead of their schemes, and reject idealized, prefabricated solutions. Mars knows that a life marked by battle is a life lived, while Pluto gets dirty. Taken as a whole, they serve as a reminder that mutual challenge is essential to making real, long-term change.
While these two make multiple conjunctions in Aquarius over the next couple of decades (aka Pluto’s time here), the world events happening now serve as a marker for what will develop and deepen during that time. When they appear in our natal charts, it’s a sign that a new cycle is about to begin in the Aquarius areas of our lives.
First and foremost, this astrology is urging us to start training, to learn more about the kind of strategy we need to create, and to consider what it could mean to be so focused on our mission that failures and difficulties only serve to strengthen our will and our abilities. Mars is able to make the most of Aquarius’s strength—its ability to see details that others miss—in this sign.
Is it possible for us to do the same?
