This summer, there will be a remarkable alignment of Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, creating a captivating celestial event known as the ‘parade of planets’.

This June, point your eyes toward the stars!

The summer season in the cosmos is beginning with a remarkable display of astronomical activity, including an upcoming full moon and a rare alignment of planets.

Six planets in the solar system will align in June, a phenomenon known as a “parade of planets.” The stunning spectacle comes after a series of extraordinary astronomical occurrences, such as the exceptionally rare total solar eclipse in April and the solar storm that ignited the mesmerizing Northern Lights across the United States in May.

NASA states that the duration of each planet’s orbit around the sun determines planetary alignments. Given the varying durations of each planet’s orbit, it is understandable why events like this, particularly those of larger size, are quite rare.

Just like with previous cosmic events, the visibility of the planetary parade will vary depending on your location and the technology you use. You can observe only those planets visible from Earth with the naked eye.

Many locations around the world, including Abu Dhabi and New York, should be able to see the planetary parade. The planetary parade’s visibility extends beyond a single day, providing viewers with numerous chances to catch a glimpse.

So, Which Planets Are Going to Line Up in the Parade of Planets 2024?

Not every combination of planetary alignments can be considered a planetary parade. When multiple planets come together in a celestial event, it is considered a parade. This particular event will feature nearly all of the planets, with only two missing from the lineup.

The alignment will include Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. During this period, you’ll have the opportunity to observe the moon, which will be in a waning crescent phase.

When is Parade of Planets 2024 Happening?

On June 3, the six planets—Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—that orbit the sun in an elliptical pattern will appear to pass in a straight line during the planet parade, also called planetary alignment. For a brief moment, with specialized eyewear like a telescope or powerful binoculars, it will be possible to see all of these planets aligned in the sky.

On June 3, just before sunrise, you can see the Planet Parade from almost anywhere on the globe. While some may be able to see this occurrence on June 3, others may have to wait a few days before or after that date.

Planet Parade will be visible to São Paulo residents on May 27 at the 43-degree sky sector and to Sydney residents on May 28 at the 59-degree sky sector. The Planetary Alignment of 2024 will also be visible to New Yorkers on June 3.

If you can’t make it to this one, there’s another one on August 28th. On February 28, 2025, the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune will form an even more remarkable alignment of seven bodies.

Planet Parade is nothing more than a natural occurrence. This one is unique because of the conjunction of all six planets. Usually, we reserve the moniker of a rare cosmic event for situations involving two or three planets converging, but the next one will be unique because it involves six planets.

While a planet parade might make it seem like the planets are aligning, it doesn’t guarantee that they actually will. Even though the planets are very far apart, their positions will make them appear to be in perfect harmony. This is because some of the planets will be slightly higher and others slightly lower.

The Best Place to Witness the Parade of Planets 2024?

If you want to see the Planet Parade in 2024 without any physical or artificial light pollution, you should go to a city with no tall buildings. You may only be able to see the larger planets—Mars and Saturn—if you try to observe this phenomenon without any specialized gear (perhaps before sunrise), and you’ll need technology to make out Mercury, Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled toward the eastern horizon just before sunrise for the best chance of seeing this celestial event. From a certain angle, the planets will appear to be in perfect alignment. For this to be visible, the sky must remain clear.

Next Planetary Alignment?

On August 28, 2024, a massive planetary procession will take place again. During the morning, the planets Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune will all be in alignment.
