What’s the first thing you do when you come home after a long day at work? You take your shoes off, right?
Have you ever liked walking on a beach wearing shoes? Never. Right? It just doesn’t feel right, and it’s quite difficult and uncomfortable.
Nobody can deny that, no matter how expensive those cushiony shoes are, nothing feels as good as being barefoot. After all, we humans have a history of being barefoot climbers and hunters.
Over time, scientists have come up with the ideal concept that speaks perfectly to the feeling we get while walking barefoot. Earthing, in its literal sense, means staying connected to the ground.
It is also known as grounding. It requires you to place your feet directly on the ground without wearing socks, shoes, or slippers. There should be absolutely no barrier between your feet and the ground.
Grounding helps to eliminate toxic energies from your body. The earth carries a large amount of negative charge.
The charge emitting from the surface of the earth is said to be rich in electrons, hence acting as a good supply of antioxidants and free radical-destroying electrons.
Connecting with the Earth—which is known to maintain a negative electrical charge—can provide the needed negative ions to create balance within the body’s cells.
The lesser-known fact is that walking shoeless also has a positive effect on your heart.
Walking barefoot lowers blood viscosity, according to a 2013 study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.
Blood viscosity is a measurement of an individual’s blood’s thickness and stickiness.
It is a direct measure of the blood’s ability to flow through the blood vessels. Elevated blood viscosity is a strong independent predictor of cardiovascular events.
Walking barefoot substantially lowered the incidence of unwanted blood cell clumping in every one of the subjects and promoted healthier circulation.
