Hugging! It is a great way to show affection and convey what we feel about each other.  Hugging someone is a means of conveying our love for them in a way that no words alone can explain.

While we are in a hug, we can feel our burdens ease away and the worries being replaced by trust and happiness.

This article focuses on some of the most extraordinary miracles that occur in our bodies due to the simple act of hugging.  Check them out!

1. Increases Bonding

Hugging releases oxytocin in the brain, which increases feelings of intimacy and commitment. Therefore,  the release of this hormone causes us to bond with other partner or strengthen the already existing bond we have.

2. Relaxes The Body

Hugging releases tension in the body, which in turn relaxes the muscles and the entire body.

3. Relieves Pain

Given that it releases endorphins, the simple act of hugging blocks pain pathways and increases circulation, which in turn relieves pain and soothes aches.

4. Increases Empathy & Understanding

Hugging allows an exchange of feelings, which in turn allow us to empathize with our partner.  This helps build trust and loyalty between people in a way that goes far beyond words. So, if you want to open your heart to someone, hug them!

5. Relieves Depression and Neurodegenerative Disorders

Hugging increases the production of dopamine in the brain, which can be even noticed on PET scan of the brain. Dopamine levels are low in those suffering from depression and conditions like Parkinson`s.  Therefore, if you see someone depressed, give them a hug.

6. Boosts Mood

Given that it boosts the production of serotonin from the brain, hugging boosts mood and self-esteem. In the case of low serotonin levels, a person feels lonely and depressed.  Luckily, hugging stimulates the production of serotonin and helps create pleasure.

7. Reduces Stress

Hugging reduces stress by lowering the levels of circulating cortisol in the blood, which helps the mind calm down.  It also helps decrease cortisol- induced hyperglycemia and diabetes mellitus. It has been scientifically shown that hugged babies are less stressed compared to less-hugged adults. According to a research at Emory University, there is a strong link between touch and relieving stress.

A study done by Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania shows that hugging and social support make people less likely to stress.  This theory has been proven by an experiment done on 404 healthy adults.

In addition to this, hugging has been also shown to boost sexual performance, serving as body`s  own Viagra.  The secret lies in the release of oxytocin, which deals with stress, improves sleep, and offers a wide range of additional benefits.  For instance, a study done by the University of North Carolina has shown that hugging even helps protect against heart disease.  Amazing, isn’t it?

The bottom line is that hugging makes you feel happier, healthier, and sexier, without the need to spend a little fortune on medications.
