This month’s full lunar phase will be a blue moon, simultaneously marking the third of four consecutive supermoons within 2023.
What could be better than one full moon per month? Two full moons!
The Sturgeon Moon, the month’s first full moon, began August’s cosmic calendar on August 1. Fortunately for lunar enthusiasts, a second full moon, known as a blue moon, will rise on August 30/31 this year.
Blue moons are extremely rare occurrences that happen once every two and a half years on average. For example, the most recent blue moon occurred in October 2020.
Normally, each month has only one full moon, but occasionally a second one appears. This year’s will appear at the closest point to Earth, creating a super blue moon.
However, contrary to its title, it will not appear blue.
The blue moon, like all full moons, has energetic and astrological significance in addition to symbolic meaning. This year’s blue moon coincides with a full moon in Pisces, bringing the water sign’s energy into our lives.
Because it is the polarity of Virgo and represents the twelfth and final zodiac sign on the wheel, both zodiac signs have ties to our physical and mental health, as well as the physical or spiritual world.
