“The conscious mind may be compared to a fountain playing in the sun and falling back into the great subterranean pool of subconscious from which it rises.”
– Sigmund Freud
In a manner similar to that of an iceberg, the conscious mind is but the tip of the vast nexus of knowledge that exists within you. Your mind at the subconscious level contains an enormous amount of wisdom that is most of the time underutilized. Only after unlocking the vast untapped potential of the subconscious mind can we unleash our true potential and radically change our lives as we know them.
Meditation
Owen Feltham summarizes meditation as “the soul’s perspective glass.” Among the many ways that you can gain access to your unconscious mind, the easiest happens to be meditation. Meditation takes you deeper into your mind’s hitherto unexplored regions, thus allowing you to enter a state of being that is akin to dreaming. Your brain patterns become slower and more structured as the noise and chaos of everyday life start to drown away.
Upon entering a meditative state, you will notice a radical change in terms of perception. Random thoughts may appear to ‘pop into your head’—these thoughts are actually not random at all, but rather the thoughts of your subconscious mind beginning to assert itself in your consciousness. It is at this juncture that meditation really benefits you. It helps you to contemplate the problem at hand, thus allowing you to find unique solutions to your problems. The best thing about meditation is its ease of learning and effortless acquisition.
Increase Creativity
The subconscious has always had a way of asserting itself on the self without actually conveying it through words. The logical mind more commonly uses something socially constructed, like language. The subconscious mind, on the other hand, bases itself on signs, symbols, music, art, and images. It is therefore important to delve into your creative instincts and practice any form of art. Many people have testified that art often opens up and expresses things that are difficult to explain in coherent words. After nurturing their creative self, one can easily come into closer contact with the subconscious.
Flow with Instincts
When faced with a problem, your subconscious often responds first. When this occurs, you may not be able to rationally understand how you arrived at this decision, but you are certain that it is the “right” one. While some of the time it may turn out to be true, most of the time these decisions turn out to be true and accurate. Quite astonishing! Your subconscious mind is always available to you once you know how to unlock the door. Once you start living your life in tune with your subconscious, you will wonder how you ever got by before. Once you are accessing your subconscious mind on a daily basis, your life will truly be transformed.
