Imagine waking up every morning and looking forward to going to work. It’s a privilege not many people have the chance to experience.
For many of you, work feels like a punishment you have to serve for the rest of your life. If you’re doing a job that simply doesn’t suit you or your personality, it’s highly likely you’re not enjoying it at all.
Finding a job that suits you perfectly is one of the keys to life-long happiness. On average, we spend about 1/3 of our life working! That’s a lot of time to be spent in dissatisfaction.
Still, if you make the right choice in selecting your job, you could be more motivated, inspired and overall happy. We’ve decided to help you understand how to find a dream job that perfectly fits your personality.
Professional Orientation
If you’re only just beginning to think about potential careers to pursue, you have a lot of open doors. You need to find a way to eliminate and close one by one until you’re left with only one open door.
In case you have no idea what you want to do in the future, you can opt for taking a professional orientation test.
This test will help you look at all aspects of your personality, combined with your habits, emotions, and desires. Then, it will give you an idea of what job might be good for you.
The test gives you the results and suggests:
- the best type of work environment for you
- the best type of working tempo for you
- profession suggestions
It’s a great way to get started and think about which way you should go. It helps you feel less lost and guides you in a certain direction.
What I Like & What I Can
You can try choosing a perfect profession for yourself by thinking about the aspects of your personality yourself. Combine it with your skills and abilities, to come to a conclusion about what could be the perfect fit.
Make a list of the following things:
- What I Enjoy Doing
Think about the things you enjoy in your everyday life. It could be cooking, playing with children, writing, painting, knitting, fixing things etc. You can even think about your favorite school subjects. Altogether, it gives a complete picture of the things you like spending time doing.
- What I’m Good At
If you like doing something, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re good at it. Think about the things you do best. Something your friends praise you about, or a hobby you’ve perfected.
- How I Imagine My Perfect Workday
Imagine a workday in the future. Is it long-hours? Is it in an office? Is it outdoors? Try finding the answers to these questions.
Once you complete the list, you’ll have a much clearer picture about what kind of a job you’re looking for. Combine the three lists and make the final list: occupations which you would enjoy doing and be good at.
Volunteer
If you’re struggling to realize which jobs are for you and which are not, maybe it’s a good idea to try some of them out. Volunteering is a great option for those of you who are searching for the perfect job fit.
There are so many benefits when it comes to volunteering:
- you can start young
- you don’t need an official education
- you can help others and feel good about it
- you can try out different jobs, responsibilities, and positions
- you establish relationships with new people
It’s almost like a test-drive for a job. You can learn whether you like it or not, how hard it is and what you need to learn and acquire in order to master it. It can help you immensely in choosing the best job for yourself.
Courses
Many people feel that once they finish school, they need to have life all figured out. If you’ve finished your education and got a degree, but you still feel like you haven’t found your path, don’t despair.
You can continue the search for your passion. Don’t let anything get you down.
Search for workshops and courses you would like to attend. Start learning some new stuff. Mingle with different people to broaden your horizons.
Search for things which give you motivation, joy, and inspiration. Allow yourself to explore all your options until you find something which moves you.
Conclusion
Finding a dream job is about finding yourself. It’s about letting yourself do what’s best for you and thinking about building a future filled with joy, excitement, and satisfaction. That is why you need to focus on finding the job which gives you all that, and more.
Once you start searching, don’t stop until you find it. Look into different job positions, volunteer, analyze your skills and find a way to make it happen. Once you figure out what is it that you want to do- the world is yours! Continue working on improving your skills and gaining experience to become the best at your dream job.
