The eclipse season has returned, and it is bigger than ever! Here’s how to see the solar eclipse this month.
The ‘Ring of Fire’ solar eclipse in Libra will grace the skies and dazzle stargazers all over the world on October 14, 2023.
You’ve probably heard on social media that eclipse season is back. Two eclipses divide the astrology of October this month. Solar and lunar eclipses occur in pairs, with each showing a different side of the same problem. On October 14, 2023, there will be a new moon solar eclipse, also known as a ‘Ring of Fire’ eclipse in Libra, and on October 28, 2023, there will be a full moon lunar eclipse in Taurus.
When the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, it casts a shadow that blocks the sun’s light. Because this upcoming eclipse is only a partial eclipse, the moon will cast a faint circle of light, creating a vibrant halo effect. This ring of fire eclipse represents transformation and a journey to a new state of being in astrology. Eclipse energy is so potent that knowing how to emotionally prepare can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there are a few strategies you can employ to stay ahead of the drama.

What Do Solar Eclipses Mean in Astrology?
Solar eclipses are annual cosmic events associated with intense periods of self-exploration and metamorphosis. They can only occur when the moon casts a shadow on the sun during a new moon cycle. The moon represents our emotions and inner desires in astrology, while the sun represents our ego expression. When the moon casts a shadow on the sun, it serves as a cosmic reminder to take a moment to reflect. Solar eclipses, in particular, can reveal what we have been avoiding but must confront in order to progress. They can be difficult, but they also provide opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Eclipses are unpredictable, making it difficult to plan for the problems they cause. However, keep in mind that eclipse cycles have an impact on your karmic destiny and spiritual growth. Any setbacks, delays, or frustrations you experience during eclipses will eventually align you with your higher good.
What to Expect from October’s Solar Eclipse in Libra
Solar eclipses are destiny-altering alignments that bring about fated endings, breakdowns, and breakthroughs. Libra’s harmonious and balanced spirit accentuates these qualities. The solar eclipse this month marks the beginning of the Aries-Libra eclipse cycle, which will last until 2025. As the North Node in Aries activates your passions and leads you down new paths of innovation, your life is about to take a sharp turn. Meanwhile, the South Node in Libra indicates that it is time for you to prioritize self-love and independence in your romantic relationships. Here are the important dates to remember.
The Aries-Libra Eclipse Cycle Dates:
- April 20, 2023: Aries Solar Eclipse
- October 14, 2023: Libra Solar Eclipse
- March 25, 2024: Libra Full Moon Eclipse
- April 8, 2024: Aries Solar Eclipse
- October 2, 2024: Libra Solar Eclipse
- March 14, 2025: Aries Solar Eclipse
The solar eclipse in Aries pushed you out of your comfort zone on April 20, 2023, and the solar eclipse in Libra wants you to feel the flames on your skin as you rise like a phoenix from the ashes. Venus, the planet of love, rules this eclipse, which forms a close conjunction in the sign of Virgo. When Venus and Lilith align during an eclipse, you can break free from the expectations that others have of you. The solar eclipse this month is a good time to recognize your worth and assert your demands, especially in romantic relationships. Make use of the energy of the new moon eclipse to reinforce your worth.
However, be careful how you express your emotions because the stars are causing tensions to rise. Mars will exert pressure on the South Node, indicating that misplaced anger and resentment are finally becoming too much to bear. Mars represents action and passion. If you enter difficult conversations without a plan, you may lose your cool. This solar eclipse will bring to light all of the flaws and hidden resentments in your closest relationships. It is up to you how you respond to the information presented.
What Does the Libra Solar Eclipse Mean for Each Zodiac Sign?
Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) will be the most affected by the solar eclipse in Libra. It’s time to liberate yourself as the eclipses progress toward the pioneering and passionate energy of the Aries-Libra eclipse cycle. You’re just starting out on your journey and are nervous about what lies ahead. This solar eclipse is an opportunity to confront and exorcise the ghosts of your past. You are encouraged to confront your fears and push through the discomfort. This eclipse establishes the tone for the remaining Aries-Libra eclipses. Begin small and see how people react to your newfound power. Examine how other people react and, more importantly, how it affects you.
This eclipse may disappoint fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius), but that is to be expected. Your big karmic moment won’t happen until the Taurus lunar eclipse on October 28, 2023. You might feel like checking out and wasting the day mentally. Mars in Scorpio, on the other hand, has what you need to access inner healing. This is an excellent day for a therapy appointment (prepare to cry a lot) or even some journaling. Get outside and move your body if you don’t want to get all woo-woo on your emotions. Mars is all about taking action and asserting yourself, so make the most of whatever energy you have.
Finally, during this solar eclipse, mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) should focus on spiritual balance and meditation. Saturn in Pisces will form a strong trine to the new moon Libra eclipse, giving you the courage to confront your problems. Boundaries, whether personal or professional, are your primary focus during this new moon eclipse. Others may try to provoke you or misrepresent the situation to make themselves look good during this solar eclipse. They will drag you down with them if you respond negatively. Take the high road and let Saturn’s karmic balance dole out justice on your behalf.
How to Watch the October 14 Solar Eclipse in Libra
• What to See
Those in the path of the annular eclipse will see the event in several phases. First, as the moon approaches the sun, it will create a crescent-shaped partial eclipse.
The moon will pass directly in front of the sun an hour and 20 minutes after the partial eclipse begins, forming the ring of fire (also known as annularity). This phase will last between one and five minutes depending on your location along the path.
The sky will darken during annularity, but not as much as during a total solar eclipse, when all of the sun’s light is blocked. According to NASA, animals may behave similarly to those seen at dusk, and the air may feel cooler.
The moon will continue its journey across the sun for another hour and 20 minutes, causing another partial eclipse before disappearing from view.
• Safe Viewing
There is no phase of an annular eclipse that is safe to view with the naked eye because the sun’s light is never completely blocked.
Wear certified eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer to view the annular eclipse. Separately, you can observe the sun through a telescope, binoculars, or camera with a special solar filter on the front that functions similarly to eclipse glasses.
Sunglasses will not suffice in place of eclipse glasses or solar viewers, which are thousands of times darker and must adhere to an international standard. Use eclipse glasses or solar viewers that are torn, scratched, or damaged.
According to NASA, do not look at the sun through any optical device — camera lens, telescope, binoculars — while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer. Given how concentrated solar rays can be through an optical device, they can still burn through the filter on the glasses or viewer and cause severe eye damage.
A pinhole projector, similar to a hole punched through an index card, can also be used to view eclipses indirectly. Standing with your back to the sun and holding up the card, these work. The sun is projected onto the ground or other surfaces by the pinhole. But never look directly at the sun through the pinhole.
If you plan on sitting outside for a while to watch the eclipse, remember to apply sunscreen and wear a hat to protect your skin.
