Long before numerology existed as we know it today, numbers were still revered and held in high esteem.

Almost all of the ancient cultures and their most prominent thinkers and philosophers associated numbers with the mysteries of the universe including its physical, material and spiritual aspects.

The first name to be associated with numerology is that of Pythagoras, all the way back in the 6th Century B.C. However experts believe that he was not the first person on earth to study the enigmatic relationship between the natural world and the mesmerizing world of numbers.

In fact, it is speculated that he is indebted to a previous numerological system, known as the Chaldean Numerology system, for his own version.

Now, the Chaldean Numerology came from the same place where the first urban civilization developed, i.e., Mesopotamia. In fact the first ever number system is said to have been developed by the Sumerians between 3200-2800 B.C. and it is assumed that the Chaldeans worked on this system further to establish the Chaldean Numerology.

When the Mesopotamian empire was conquered by the Persians, the conquerors were so impressed by the advancement of the Chaldeans in not just in mathematics, but also writing, astrology and astronomy that they started using the term Chaldean, for any practitioner of this art. To this day, Chaldean Numerology holds the position of first ever system of numerology.

The Chaldeans held the belief that the Universe’s energy is always in motion, kinetic and numbers were intrinsically linked to this energy and helped in responding to the divine changes in the universe.

This concept is similar to the modern theory that the Universe is constantly vibrating and it is these vibrations which are affecting everything in creation.

Almost all ancient numeric systems are similar to the tally system we follow today, of 4 ‘|’ followed by a diagonal slash. Soon the systems progressed to alphanumeric ones and each symbol was given a sound of its own. These phonetic symbols greatly helped in advancing numerology.

The creative energy of the universe was studied through the numerical values ascribed to these sounds and numbers. Hence, our birthdates and the letters of our name are symbolic of the universal creative energy which is connected with our lives.

Understanding our own personal vibrations will help us maneuver through the various energies at work in the universe and establish harmony with the natural order.
