A Message To All Good People Out There: You’re Not Depressed – You Are Surrounded By Assh*les

There are all sorts of ways for people to express their evil, twisted and malicious nature. Dr. Elvira Aletta, sociologist and author for ‘Explorewhatsnext’ portal, has a message for you.

In a nutshell – ‘Don’t worry – it’s not your fault’.

“Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by assholes”.

Many people can relate to these words; it will make them think about their own experiences. Let’s think about it for a second, how many times has other people’s behavior affected your feelings? How many times have you been forced to give up on a lover or a friend just because that relationship was destroying your self-confidence?

If the people in your life posses these three following characteristics, the problem might just not be your depression or low self-esteem.

1. Assholes are happy in their idiotism

Being an asshole doesn’t mean that they aren’t intelligent. No one is smart at all times and no one knows everything about everything. Start from yourself – when there’s something you don’t know, for starters – admit it. What is even more important, don’t give lectures to people on a topic you know nothing about. However, this rarely applies to assholes who love to show off their “knowledge”. These people intentionally act stupid and it makes them happy.

2. Assholes are loud and obnoxious

What are the chances an asshole is silent and shy? There might be some, but you will find it hard to name them. Most of the assholes are not interested in having a real conversation where they would not only speak but they would have to listen too. They give monologues, they shout, get into your personal space and, what is worse, they are not even aware of doing it. They might do it to make themselves feel superior. Regardless, it’s not good for your well-being.

3. Assholes are selfish bullies

I can’t stress enough how self-centered assholes are. They downplay other people’s believes, feelings and achievements, while simultaneously inflating their egos and superiority complex.

Why do assholes make us feel depressed?

If we re constantly exposed to assholes they can affect our self-esteem. Our parents taught us to be kind and well-behaved, and to listen to people and respect their opinions, even when we don’t agree with them. They also taught us to expect the same in return. Good people don’t get mad easily and have tendency to accentuate the positive in others.

The asshole’s behavior makes us feel stupid because we are good. When we see such person on regular bases, with time, it ruins our self-confidence, makes us feel hopeless, tired, sad and depressed. Chronic emotional abuse indeed can lead to depression.

What can you do for yourself?

Be honest with yourself. When you finally see the real situation, it would get much easier to get your self-esteem back. Spend as less time as possible with such a person. If you have to share the office with them, ask for a transfer… Take a better care of yourself. For a change, spend more time with the people who make you feel good and loved. Your pets can be excellent companions as well.

Now that you know how to recognize an asshole when you see one, it’s time to get yourself out of depression and misery and live a life free of toxic people.
