I think we all know of the instant beauty enhancing effect that a smile has on people, no matter their gender, race or nationality.
But apparently, there are even more benefits if being happy other than beauty. A simple act of smiling can be the best gift that you give to your body and health.
Smiling comes naturally to us. When we are happy about something. When we see something we like. When we feel connected with someone or something. It is one of our body’s most natural responses. But as adults, we just don’t smile more.
Think of it like this, as babies we used to smile for at least 400 times a day. And not just because we were super proud of our toothless grin. We just were happy and we knew it and we were not afraid to show it. Whereas as adults, if you are extremely happy, you are most likely to smile 40, maximum 50 times a day.
The stats for an average (smiles not-so-often) adult show that we smile 20 times a day. Now before you start grumbling (see that is one of those things which might impact your per day smile average) about this being some new age hippy mumbo jumbo, we have a few hard facts for you.
In a study conducted in the UK, it was found that a single smile is much more effective in making you feel good about yourself than chocolate, sex and money combined.
The heart rate and electromagnetic brain scans reveal that one smile is better than 20,00 bars of chocolate, or $20000 of cold hard cash in boosting your mood.
It might seem a bit far-fetched to you right now but there is some logic behind it. When we smile we release dopamine, serotonin and endorphins in our body. These are all neurotransmitters responsible for making us feel good.
They make you feel good and bring down your blood pressure as well as heart rate. All these factors contribute immensely to a good physical health.
So the next time you get an opportunity to smile, don’t pass it up. Smile genuinely and smile more. It is the secret to good health.
