On July 17, 2023, the Cancer New Moon occurs just as the Lunar Nodes shift into Aries and Libra, ushering in a new 18-month karmic cycle.

The Cancer New Moon and the Lunar Nodes shifting on the same day indicate a period of increased karmic energy.

If we pay attention, we may notice the Universe scattering bread crumbs, leading us down a path that will accelerate the growth and development of our soul.

The Cancer New Moon may also bring new events or opportunities into our lives, which can align us with feelings of purpose. Pay attention to anything that stirs under this New Moon, as it will likely serve as a guide for us as to which direction the Universe is pointing us in.

New Moon, New Intentions

Creating intentions is always a powerful thing to do at New Moon time, but see if you can craft your intentions and ideas from a place of inner trust during July’s New Moon.

This necessitates going within, sitting with ourselves, and directing our lives’ vision from a place of inner knowing and intuition. The answers may not come immediately, but practicing patience is an important part of the process.

Creating intentions from a place of inner knowing means going with the flow and trusting that the right inspiration and answers will appear when they are ready. This process necessitates surrender and a great deal of faith, but when we surrender to it, ease tends to follow.

The Moon is Home in Cancer

Finding our peace may be easier under this New Moon because the Moon enjoys being in the sign of Cancer.

The Moon represents our feelings of safety and security, as well as our feelings of comfort. The Moon can also symbolize feminine energy in our lives.

We may feel more connected and in tune with our emotions and feminine side when the Moon is in its sweet spot in our cosmic skies, and we may have an easier time understanding what makes us feel secure.

Because our emotional body will be easier to access, we may feel compelled to delve deeply into our emotions and feelings. We may need to sit with how we truly feel, or witness emotions bubbling beneath the surface so they can be cleared.

This New Moon may also bring up issues concerning our mothers or mothering. We may be reminded of painful childhood memories, or we may find ourselves needing to balance our mothering qualities. The mother wound can also cause problems with comfort and security.

Do we have a sense of stability and security in ourselves? Can we bring ourselves back into balance by comforting and soothing ourselves?

Cancer energy can be like the Divine Mother, swooping in and caring for us in all the ways we crave. It has the ability to comfort us in just the right ways, holding us so that we feel secure and stable in the big wide world.

However, another energy that Cancer can embody is bravery, and this bravery comes from pure love. When we unconditionally love ourselves, it becomes second nature to advocate for our well-being, care for ourselves when we are in need, and find the courage to make the necessary changes.

We can channel some of this self-love energy during the Cancer New Moon. This self-love energy can be channeled into feelings of bravery, confidence, and inner strength.

The Cancer New Moon and the Cosmic Skies

Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, is highly active during this New Moon, so we may experience some transformation. This is likely to be subtle and something we feel first on an emotional level.

Pluto is also in retrograde right now, guiding us back to events we’ve been dealing with since October of last year. Themes, particularly on an emotional level, that were stirring around October 2022 may rise to the surface for clearing or greater awareness.

At this time, Venus, the Goddess of love, beauty, and money, is also approaching her official retrograde date. While Venus will not go retrograde until July 22, its energy may be heightened by the Cancer New Moon.

Venus Retrograde is a time of heart healing, so we may start to hear more whispers about what heart healing awaits us once Venus begins her retrograde journey.

With this energy dynamic in play, the Cancer New Moon may feel more sensitive than usual. We may need to be cautious about the emotions we choose to cling to and the people we choose to surround ourselves with.

This New Moon invites us to be gentle with ourselves, to wrap ourselves in our own warmth, and to nourish ourselves in ways only we can.
