If you find that your morning routine is frequently riddled with hurried movements, the solution may lie in making a slight adjustment to the way that you begin your day.

You can’t help but let the first few minutes of your day dictate the course of your entire day. Just picture the remainder of your day if you’re so rushed to get ready for the day that you’re afraid you might miss the train or, worse, get stuck in traffic fuming from road rage.

When you start your day off right by making a conscious effort to take care of yourself, even if it’s just for ten minutes, you have the power to alter the course of your entire day. Work performance, social interactions, and self-esteem could all see improvements as a result. Feeling calmer, more collected, and less irritable all day long is possible with a solid morning routine. As a whole, spiritual practices in the morning can give you a boost and keep you from dwelling on insignificant matters.

It can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to developing a morning spirituality routine. To begin, if you find it difficult to sit quietly in meditation for extended periods of time, you should not force yourself to do so as part of your routine. Start small by standing quietly in the shower for as little as a minute, eyes closed, placing your hands on your heart chakra, and expressing gratitude for another day. Make sure you’re not under pressure or moving too quickly when you do this. If you want to improve your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being as well as your spirit and light, developing a morning spirituality routine is a great place to start.

Thinking about trying it out?

Incorporate some spirituality into your morning routine with these five simple tips!

Slow Morning Activation

You might want to rethink how you spend those first few moments of each day if you tend to spring out of bed in response to an overly jarring alarm. Find an alarm clock that doesn’t ring too loudly. An app to install on your mobile device is also available. Lay the phone across the room and let it ring while you slumber. You shouldn’t get out of bed too quickly to turn off the gentle sound that wakes you up in the morning. Go at your own pace. Gently stretch while lying in bed. Wash your face. Perhaps even a self-embracing embrace would do. Be aware of when negative thoughts start to flood your mind, examine them, and replace them with positive thoughts about someone or something that makes you happy. “Thank you, Great Spirit, for another day,” you might say, and then slowly rise from bed. While you inhale, raise your arms overhead; when you exhale, lower them to your sides. Before bringing your hands to touch the floor in a forward fold, repeat this three times. No worries if your feet aren’t touching the floor. Take a deep breath in and slowly stand up straight again after resting your hands wherever they do reach. To spice things up, try incorporating some side bends and rotating your hips, shoulders, wrists, and ankles. It usually only takes around five minutes to do this brief morning stretch.

Show of Gratitude

Gratitude is a great way to start the day. Sit down with a mug of coffee or tea and a journal. Write down ten things you are thankful for. These can be small things, like having a toothbrush or a hot shower, or large things, like having a baby or overcoming cancer. Put your hands on your heart chakra, read each item aloud, and then give thanks after you’ve written your list. After you’ve read everything on your list, take a little break—even if it’s just a minute—to sit back, smile, and count your blessings. As you continue this practice over time, you will amass a beautiful collection of journals filled with gratitude. These journals will help you put things in perspective when you are facing difficult days.

Blessed Water

Drinking blessed water is a powerful practice in many Indigenous cultures. Incorporating this into your morning spiritual practice can yield significant results. Get a glass of water, put it in your hands, bend over, and say a prayer over it before you drink anything else. Let’s say “May this water be blessed so that as I consume it, the purifying water cleanses any negativity or stagnant energy, and any disease or illness that may be present.” Then, sip the water slowly and deliberately, seeing each sip as a transmission of the message you just spoke to your body through the water’s memory. Proceed with your morning preparations as usual and pay attention to how you feel once you’re done.

Meditation à la Carte

In order to navigate life more effortlessly, meditation is a potent tool for harmonizing your spirit-body with your physical-body. A universal method of meditation is not necessary, though. Someone else’s strategy might be completely different from yours. For ten minutes or more, some people find great joy in sitting quietly. Some people find that really challenging. If that is so, try something else to help you relax and focus on the here and now. Perhaps all it takes to get your day off to a good start is three minutes of meditation while you’re in the shower. Put your hands on the center of your heart, droop your head slightly, and say a prayer. Take a moment to pause. You could say something new every day, or it could be something completely different. God, I praise you because today is a new day. It is a gift that I am able to see the world around me each and every day. It means a lot to me. For everything, I am eternally grateful. After that, get up and concentrate on your breathing for a while. Just silently saying “just” on the inhale and “breathe” on the exhale will bring your mind back to the present moment if it begins to wander during this meditation, such as when you start thinking about what to wear or what to eat for lunch. The more you do this, the easier it will become to sit quietly, tune into Spirit, and receive guidance messages.

Protect Your Energy

Ensure that your energy is protected before you leave for the day. A little spiritual practice first thing in the morning can have a big impact on your mood both during the day and after you wake up. Energy conservation measures can be implemented by utilizing Florida Water. Get a little spray bottle and fill it with the spiritual cologne. Before you head out for the day, spritz some into your hands. Breathe in the soothing aroma as you hold your hands over your head and then envelop your entire body in a gentle sweeping motion. Beginning at the shoulders and working your way down to the feet, cross your hands and draw a downward stroke. Picture this surrounding you like a shield. Now you can go about your day and night without worrying that the energy of other people will affect you.
