Known as one of the most potent days of the year, Equinoxes are days where there are equal hours of sunlight and moonlight. The Equinox is a symbol of both oneness and duality.

The Autumnal Equinox occurs on September 22 at 8:44 a.m. ET or 2:44 p.m. CET, marking the end of one season and the beginning of another around the world. Equinoxes occur twice a year, at the start of fall and spring. Simply put, this shift occurs when the Sun crosses the Earth’s equator. It is the time when the Earth’s North and South poles have equal daylight and nighttime hours at the same time. When the Northern Hemisphere’s Fall Equinox begins, the Southern Hemisphere’s Spring Equinox begins (and vice versa).

The summer months are all about growth and maximizing our endeavors’ potential, whereas the Autumnal Equinox is all about taking stock of what you’ve grown, harvesting it, and deciding how to best utilize it, both magically and physically. The decaying apples, pumpkins, and leaves show us how delicate and beautiful the cycle of life truly is.

With the arrival of fall, we’ll enjoy ordering pumpkin spice lattes, lighting cardamom-scented candles with mouthwatering vanilla essences, wearing cozy sweaters, reading intriguing new books by the fireplace, gazing at the colorful foliage ranging in shades of aubergine to orange, and embracing everything ghostly that the spooky season has to offer.

At this time, we, like nature, are undergoing personal transformations. We’re starting to spend more time indoors as we prepare for the changing weather and cuffing season (the autumnal months when people want to get married). Friendships, communication, and companionship are crucial to everyone over the next few months (September 22 to December 21).

There are numerous ways to observe the Autumn Equinox. Connecting with your local community is one of the best ways. Whether you decide to host a block party, hold a yard sale with your neighbors and donate the proceeds to charity, or pay it forward by doing a kind gesture for a friend, you’ll discover that giving back in some way allows you to feel connected to others.

You could also go for a hike and enjoy nature. Mediation can help us all honor the light and darkness within us. Alternatively, decorate your home for the first days of the cozy season and journal your dreams for the days ahead while supplementing old visions. There is no right or wrong way to celebrate the Equinox; it is up to you to find the activity that best suits your interests and spirits.

The 23rd of September, the day after the Autumnal Equinox, not only ushers in a new season, but also marks the Sun’s entry into Libra. This transition assists us in finding balance and peace in our daily lives, as well as reasoning our way into our emotions. We don’t want passion; we want meaningful relationships with equal partners.

It will be critical that we find and maintain our center at all costs. Nothing will stand in the way of our pursuit of happiness and serenity. Extreme emotions will not help us understand situations or others, so a moment of calm will benefit us greatly.

On the same day, people also celebrate the pagan holiday of Mabon. It is a Sabbat on the Wiccan Wheel of the Year that begins with the Autumn Equinox and honors the harvest of the year, as well as the blessings and bounty brought to us by Mother Earth. It’s a magical time to be aware of the seasonal shift.

During Mabon, we eat produce from the harvest, make a cornucopia, and wear seasonal shades of red, orange, brown, or green. It’s a wonderful opportunity to clear out negative energies and bring in positive vibes by cleansing the house with intention (manifesting while detoxing your home) and letting go of toxic relationships.

The time has come to let go and start over.
