The Full Moon is beautiful, but it can sometimes disrupt your sleep.
Some Full Moons don’t just illuminate the sky—they seem to awaken something inside us. If you’ve ever found yourself lying awake with racing thoughts, heightened emotions, or unusually vivid dreams, you’re far from alone. Rather than fighting the Moon’s powerful energy, Moon breathing invites you to move with it, using slow, intentional breaths to calm your nervous system and restore inner balance. Sometimes the secret to sleeping peacefully isn’t escaping the Full Moon’s magic—it’s learning how to breathe in harmony with it.
With a beautiful and deeply grounding Strawberry Super Full Moon lighting up the night sky on June 29th, it’s worth giving yourself a little extra space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters. This year’s Strawberry Full Moon is more than just a breathtaking sight—it’s one of the most spiritually significant lunations of the season, making it the perfect time to release what has run its course and step confidently toward the life you’re ready to build.
Moon breathing, also known as Chandra Anga, is a yogic practice that involves breathing in through your left nostril while closing your right nostril. This type of breathwork helps to calm your body and mind by regulating your parasympathetic nervous system, allowing you to relax and fall asleep.
This is useful whenever you need to sleep, but especially during a Full Moon. Full Moons bring what is latent to the surface, so insomnia or a release of anxiety or emotion is not uncommon during the lunation.
Getting enough sleep is essential for your overall health, and it will also help you make the most of the Full Moon’s energy. A Full Moon is the ideal time to let go of what no longer serves you, which is why it will feel especially beneficial to rest, relax, and reset with some serious Zzzs… courtesy of some breathwork.

First, Let’s Talk About June’s Strawberry Moon
Traditionally known as the Strawberry Moon, June’s Full Moon symbolizes the season of ripening, abundance, and the rewards that come after patience and perseverance. While its beauty will be impossible to ignore, its emotional energy may feel just as powerful, bringing long-buried feelings, truths, and realizations to the surface.
This lunar event promises to be both visually stunning and spiritually transformative. Whether you’re watching it rise over the horizon, journaling your intentions, or simply sitting beneath its light, this is an ideal moment to celebrate how far you’ve come and align yourself with the future you’re meant to create.
At the heart of every Full Moon is the sacred opposition between the Sun and the Moon. This time, the Moon in Capricorn stands opposite the Sun in Cancer. The Moon in Capricorn encourages discipline, resilience, responsibility, and long-term success. It reminds us that lasting achievements are built one steady step at a time. Meanwhile, the Sun in Cancer calls us inward, asking us to nurture our emotional well-being, protect what we love, and honor the foundations that make us feel safe. Together, they create a powerful invitation to balance ambition with emotional fulfillment, proving that true success means building a life that feels just as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.

This rare configuration asks us to separate dreams from illusions while taking courageous responsibility for the future we want. It may expose where we’ve been avoiding difficult truths, but it also offers the clarity needed to turn vision into reality.
Meanwhile, Mercury Retrograde conjunct Jupiter in Cancer encourages profound reflection on the past. Old conversations, memories, and unfinished emotional chapters may resurface, offering opportunities for healing and a deeper understanding of your journey. Their opposition to Pluto Retrograde in Aquarius can reveal powerful truths, transforming the way you think about yourself, your relationships, and your purpose. At the same time, supportive connections to Mars and Uranus in Gemini inspire fresh ideas, unexpected breakthroughs, and the courage to embrace a new direction when the Universe opens an unexpected door.
As if that weren’t enough, Mars conjunct Uranus in Gemini electrifies the atmosphere with bold, life-changing energy. Surprising opportunities, sudden insights, and courageous decisions can shift your path in ways you never expected. Backing this momentum, Jupiter in Leo trine Saturn in Aries reminds us that genuine growth comes when confidence is matched with commitment, while the harmonious connection between Neptune in Aries and Pluto Retrograde in Aquarius quietly supports profound spiritual evolution and lasting transformation.
This Strawberry Super Full Moon isn’t here to rush your journey—it’s here to remind you that every lesson, every challenge, and every moment of perseverance has been preparing you for the next chapter. Why Does the Full Moon Have an Impact on Your Sleep?
If you’ve been having trouble falling asleep this week, you’re not alone. A Full Moon can disrupt your sleep for up to five days before it occurs. This is due, in part, to the appearance of extra moonlight, which can cause you to toss and turn and lose a few hours of sleep. However, a Full Moon can have an effect on how you feel.
The Moon’s phases influence the ocean’s tides, and the same energy affects humans. Because the energies are out of sync, we may be a little more irritable during the Full Moon. This is why you may feel tense, irritable, or unable to sleep.
Moonlight & Melatonin Suppression
- Bright Evening Glow: Unlike other phases, the full moon rises around sunset and stays bright throughout the early night.
- Hormonal Disruption: This late-day natural illumination delays the release of melatonin, the hormone responsible for signaling bedtime to your brain.
- Heightened Alertness: Reduced melatonin keeps your internal clock lagging, making you feel more alert when you should be winding down.
An Evolutionary “Circalunar” Rhythm
- Ancestral Adaptation: Before electricity, a bright Full Moon allowed ancestors to safely hunt, gather, or socialize later into the night.
- Built-in Biological Clock: Researchers from the University of Washington discovered this sleep-shortening pattern persists across modern urban students and isolated Indigenous communities alike.
- Windowless Lab Proof: Landmark studies in journals like Current Biology confirm that participants sleep worse during a full moon even when sealed in completely dark, windowless laboratories. This strongly implies humans carry an innate, monthly biological clock separate from direct light exposure.
Psychological Confirmation Bias
- Memorable Coincidences: When you sleep poorly on a normal night, you usually don’t think twice about it.
- Blaming the Sky: If you toss and turn, open your blinds, and see a massive, glowing orb, your brain immediately connects the two events. This “illusory correlation” causes people to overestimate how much the moon personally alters their rest.
What Exactly Is “Moon Breathing”?
Moon breathing is a yogic technique that has been practiced for centuries. It’s a breathing technique in which you only breathe through your left nostril and close off your right nostril, which helps you fall asleep faster and improves your overall sleep quality. Notably, it can effectively counteract the disruption in sleep that the Full Moon causes.
This pranayama, or controlled breathing through your left nostril, not only makes you feel more centered and relaxed, but it also stimulates your parasympathetic nervous system, allowing you to “rest and digest.” The more you practice this type of breathing, the easier it will be to remain calm and relaxed.
It’s very similar to alternate nostril breathing, which is a type of pranayama. They differ slightly in that with alternate nostril breathing, you can pause your breath after exhaling and then continue the pattern of inhaling and exhaling through each nostril. In addition, you switch and exhale through your right nostril, whereas Moon breathing is all about inhaling and exhaling through the left.

How to Perform Moon Breathing
This section explains how to do a Moon breath. Try it before going to bed or whenever you need to unwind.
- Come to a seated or reclined position and close your eyes.
- Relax your shoulders down and away from your ears.
- Take a deep breath.
- Fill your lungs and feel your chest expand.
- Use your right thumb to close off your right nostril.
- Rest your other fingers on the palm of your hand or extend the fourth and fifth fingers across your face.
- Repeat for a few minutes or until your mind has settled and you feel calmer and more relaxed.
This is a practice that anyone can do, even if they are feeling rushed or stressed during the day. If you choose to do this during the day, make sure you choose a comfortable and peaceful location where you can truly focus on your breathing and avoid distractions.
