It is likely that the planets are chuckling to themselves as they place yet another obstacle in our path, which is Mercury Retrograde, as we struggle to make it to the end of the year.
It’s the last one of 2023, which is a relief. On the other hand, due to the fact that Mercury is in retrograde as we enter the New Year, it is best to refrain from making any resolutions (or at the very least, keep them off of social media).
What exactly does this time around have in store for us? The Mercury Retrograde that will begin on December 13, 2023, and continue until January 1, 2024, is a one-of-a-kind event because it will travel through two signs: the free-spirited sign of Sagittarius and the ambitious and competitive sign of Capricorn. It will go through both of these signs. Please see the following for further explanation.
Wait, what exactly is a Retrograde again?
Before we get into the specifics, let me give you a quick refresher on what exactly a retrograde is. This is for anyone who has forgotten everything about the last time Mercury went into retrograde. However, there was one instance in which it wasn’t all that bad. An example of the phenomenon known as retrograde is when a planet moves at a slower rate than the Earth. As a result, an optical illusion is produced in which it appears as though the planet is moving in the opposite direction. Every planet will experience a retrograde motion at some point in their existence; however, Mercury Retrogrades are among the most frequent transits, occurring anywhere from three to four times per year.
It should come as no surprise that this visual contains a great deal of unfathomable significance. The reason for this is that, as a general rule, retrogrades are times of considerable upheaval. When you factor in Mercury, a planet that is so well-known for its rapid orbits that it was named after the Roman god who was responsible for wealth, commerce, travel, and communication, you leave yourself with a lot of room for error.
When can we expect the last Mercury Retrograde for 2023?
Beginning on December 13, 2023, the final Mercury Retrograde of 2023 will continue until January 1, 2024. This will be the final retrograde of the year. Make a note of these dates in your calendar, and use them as an explanation (excuse) for problems that may arise in the future. Just joking around.
If, on the other hand, you are interested in going into greater detail, the pre-Retrograde shadow begins on November 25th, and the post-Retrograde shadow will continue to linger well into the new year, as it is scheduled to end on January 20th, 2024. In case you have not been able to comprehend this, the Retrograde shadows that have been mentioned, which are also referred to as a “Retroshade,” denote the two week period that occurs before and after the beginning of a Retrograde. You can think of it as a preview of the difficulties that you will very soon face, as well as your first opportunity to prepare for them and lessen the impact they will have on you. Although we prefer to think of them as a trio of opportunities, it is true that “bad things come in threes,” as the proverb goes. To meet them, we pray that you will rise.
Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius
Mercury Retrograde starts in Sagittarius, the sign associated with joy, spontaneity, and a thirst for adventure, as we previously stated. When Mercury Retrograde is in this sign, it will affect the planet in two ways. First, as the year winds down, you may discover that you become delirious and careless as your determination crumbles. It could be the push you need to apply for that dream job or reserve that dream vacation now that you’re more willing to take chances. While a surge of self-assurance is natural, it’s important to avoid destroying your hard-won progress in pursuit of temporary happiness. If you wait until Mercury Retrograde reaches Capricorn, you might experience a hangover similar to the celestial Sunday scaries.
Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn
Mercury in Capricorn is setting a poetic tone to ring in the New Year. Expert manifesters, Capricorns are infamously driven. Take this into consideration as you look forward to the opportunities of the new year and reflect on all that 2023 has brought you, particularly in regards to your professional development. Settle any outstanding matters and establish your goals now. Have you reached your maximum potential or are you just coasting? Are you happy where you are at work, or is it time to go? You may come to a realization about a truth about your desire and be prepared to take action after Mercury’s tendency to reveal things from our paths.
2024 is almost here.
Godspeed.
