A sapiosexual is defined as such: “one who finds intelligence the most sexually attractive feature”, and these people are way more common than you might think. Intelligence truly is a sexy and scientists can back it up.
Scientists Finally Explain Sapiosexuality.
According to Diana Rabb, a Ph.D. in transpersonal psychology: “The brain is the largest s*x organ. Those who admit to being a sapiosexual will say that they are turned on by the brain and tend to be teased or excited by the insights of another person. As foreplay, the sapiosexual person may crave philosophical, political, or psychological discussions because this turns [him or her] on.”
While you may not necessarily be turned on in the conventional sense by a smart person. There is definitely something attractive about someone who is smart. There are a lot of different elements that go into someone being an attractive person and intelligence, for many, is one of the key ones. Even greater than this, for some, intelligence is the most attractive feature in a person.
Shared Interests Communicate Intelligence
When someone intelligibly talks about something that we are interested in, it perks our ears. We like people who have shared interests and this is one of the ways in which intelligence can be perceived.
Intelligence is Lasting
Of course being physically attractive is great, but physical attractiveness diminishes with time. Intelligence, however, is lasting. Sapiosexuals know that a relationships are more fulfilling when something more than physical attraction is shared. Intelligence is substance that does not go away and it can be shared forever. If that is not attractive, I don’t know what is.
Correlations to a Higher S*x Drive
The amount of s*x toys purchased by Lovehoney showed a “heightened interest in s*x among students in the Russell Group of elite universities.” Based on that data, one could say that smarter people have higher s*x drives. Take this with a grain of salt, but the data doesn’t lie.
Intelligence in Evolution
Professor Geoffrey Miller of the University of New Mexico tested 400 men for their sperm health and then for their overall intelligence. He found that there was a direct correlation between intelligence and sperm healthiness, as the men who scored the highest on the cognitive test also had the healthiest sperm.
He conclude that intelligence is a genetic trait that was passed down as “traits such as language, humor, and intelligence evolved in both sexes, because they were sexually attractive to both sexes.” These are the things which attract us.
If you think about it logically, of course our ancestors wanted an intelligent partner, simply for survival’s sake. Granted, we are much more evolved now, but the same instincts reside within us still.
We want a partner who is going to be intelligent as they will better be able to provide for our needs and relate to us. Intelligence makes for a better partner and a better life.
