On January 3, 2025, Comet Lemmon made its debut, discovered by the Mount Lemmon Survey, which utilizes a 60-inch telescope stationed on Mt. Lemmon in Arizona to explore the cosmos.
A single orbit around the Sun typically spans about 1,350 years. However, following its close encounter in November, the Sun’s gravitational pull will tighten the trajectory, shortening the orbit to approximately 1,150 years.
Since its discovery, Comet Lemmon has experienced a remarkable increase in brightness, soaring from magnitude +21.5 to around +5.7.
