In 2025, the focus will be on truly hearing one another.
The Lunar New Year is fast approaching, and soon we will welcome the Year of the Snake. And no, I’m not referring to Taylor’s Version of Reputation—though that might be just around the corner as well. No, I am referring to the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac.
Each year, the Lunar New Year, commonly referred to as the Chinese New Year, brings forth a new dominant animal that symbolizes one of the 12 zodiac signs. On January 29, we will officially welcome the Chinese New Year, marking the beginning of the Year of the Snake.
Let’s explore what this signifies for us.
When is the Lunar New Year?
The Lunar New Year is celebrated on a different date each year, typically falling between January 21 and February 20. Mark your calendars for this vibrant celebration!
This year, the celebration of the Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, takes place on 29 January.
The Lunar New Year is celebrated annually, aligning with the lunar cycle. Chinese astrology honors the influence of the moon and its significant role in shaping our lives. Water covers seventy percent of our planet, mirroring the human body’s 70% water composition. Both are influenced by the Lunar Cycle in a remarkable way. The Lunar New Year follows the 28-day cycle of the moon, determined by the occurrence of the second new moon following the winter solstice.
The Significance of the Year of the Snake
In 2025, embrace the new zodiac symbol: the Wood Snake.
Anyone tuning into the TV program The Traitors this year will find themselves captivated by the authority of the Snake, a true master of disguise. The Snake captivates with its stunning skin, presenting an initial impression of softness and tranquility. However, beneath this exterior lies a sharp intellect, ready to take action—complete with a sharp tongue to deliver a stinging retort if provoked. In essence, this leader prioritizes respect, firmly believing in maintaining his position without compromising.
With the Year of the Snake upon us, it’s time to navigate every aspect of our lives with caution.
In 2025, embrace these guiding principles: engage with diplomacy, steer clear of offense, and focus on the facts at hand rather than those derived from hearsay. In 2025, it’s essential to prioritize understanding one another’s needs and striving for a harmonious compromise. Overstepping your authority could put your own stability at risk.
While a year filled with deception and uncertainty might not seem enjoyable, it does offer some silver linings as well. The Snake is resolute in its mission to drive transformation and leave insecurities behind. To achieve this, we must collaborate as a cohesive unit, ready to find common ground through both giving and receiving. It’s essential that we excel in our respective areas while also contributing wherever possible, as every piece of the puzzle plays a crucial role.
Embracing the energy of the Snake can open doors to new opportunities. Trusting the Snake to do his job means tapping into his exceptional skills to support us. With a keen eye for wise investments, he is ready to showcase exciting opportunities to the public, unveiling solutions that will swiftly follow his strategic move. Though the journey may be gradual as he navigates each curve with care, once he identifies his goal, he will unlock the potential for the positive change we all seek.
How is Lunar New Year Celebrated?
Lunar New Year is celebrated with vibrant festivities and rich traditions. Families come together to honor their ancestors, share delicious meals, and exchange gifts. Colorful decorations adorn homes, symbolizing good fortune and happiness. Fireworks light up the sky, and lively parades fill the streets, showcasing cultural performances and traditional attire. It’s a time of joy, renewal, and hope for the year ahead.
The Lunar New Year unfolds over a vibrant fifteen-day celebration, beginning with the New Moon on 29 January, heralding a time of renewal and new perspectives.
In the three days leading up to the New Moon, we experience a time of darkness, a moment of cleansing that sets the stage for a vibrant new beginning as the new year approaches. Typically, this involves revitalizing the paint on your home’s main door, organizing the essential rooms, and tidying up the bedrooms.
Family members also traditionally bathe in Feng Shui water.
Enhance your boiling water by incorporating grapefruit leaves, fresh ginger, mint, or small green conifer branches for a delightful infusion. Cleanse your entire body from head to toe in this flowing water under a shower on New Year’s Eve (28 January), and then slip into something fresh and new. Continue this tradition on New Year’s Day (29 January) and the next day (30 January), without the necessity for new attire on those two days.
This eliminates any negative energy you wish to shed, making it an excellent practice for everyone to embrace a fresh beginning for the year ahead.
Celebrate the New Year with a vibrant Dragon Dance weaving through the streets, accompanied by a grand family feast featuring symbolic dishes that embody tradition and togetherness. Wearing red during the New Year is seen as a symbol of good fortune.
