Introduction

Welcome to the Fascinating Universe of Full Moons & What They Mean!

The Full Moon is the lunar event that happens halfway through a lunar cycle, after the Waxing Gibbous and before the Waning Gibbous. In a Full Moon, the lunar surface that faces Earth receives full illumination from the Sun because the Moon is in a syzygy with respect to Earth and the Sun. The reason it looks like a luminous circle in the sky is because of this. A syzygy is the straight-line configuration of three or more celestial bodies in a gravitational system, such as the Sun, Moon, and Earth during a Solar or Lunar Eclipse. Derived from the Greek for “yoking together,” this alignment signifies conjunction or opposition. It is commonly used in astronomy for Eclipses, transits, and occultations.

From a spiritual perspective, Full Moons represent abundance, clarity, completion, and release. There are distinct energies and themes linked to each Full Moon. As an example, the Worm Moon, which takes place in March, is a symbol of rebirth following a rejuvenating Winter.

Origin of the Worm Moon

The origin of the name “Worm Moon” is not complicated at all. After a long Winter, earthworms and other invertebrates usually start to show signs of life in March when the soil starts to warm.

The Full Moon that takes place in March is known by many names (Sap Moon, Sugar Moon, and Wind Moon), but the most common of which is the Worm Moon.

The Worm Moon of 2026 will take place on Tuesday, March 3rd, at 6:34 a.m. ET (12:34 p.m. CET). The days leading up to, on, and immediately following the 3rd, when the Moon will be at its fullest, will be prime viewing opportunities.

Lunar Traditions & Beliefs

• Power Revitalized

The Worm Moon represents rebirth and strong energy. With the arrival of the first Full Moon of Spring (or, depending on your calendar, the last Full Moon of Winter), it’s time to shake off the shadows and welcome the light. We put our newfound resolutions into action and start over in the Spring because Winter is a time for contemplation and relaxation.

• Growth

Signs of life from invertebrates, such as earthworms, become apparent when the soil starts to warm. The Full Moon in March is known as the “Worm Moon” for this reason. Like earthworms, we humans emerge from hibernation in the Spring to pursue our dreams and expand ourselves. The seeds we sowed in the dead of Winter are finally starting to sprout and grow, much like the first blossoms of Spring.

• Release

Although every Full Moon represents the letting go of things that no longer benefit us, the Worm Moon is particularly significant for this purpose. This is due to the fact that, as previously stated, it heralds a fresh phase of development and revitalization. We must let go of what is no longer beneficial to us before we can completely embrace what lies ahead, which is a better future. Maybe you’ve been holding onto something from your Winter reflections that you can finally let go of with acceptance and love.

Celebrations & Rituals

The monthly Full Moon was a sacred occasion for many ancient religions and cultures. But there’s a unique kind of party that happens on the Worm Moon.

Paying respect to the ebb and flow of life is central to the Full Moon in March. Every season has its place; for instance, we all need Winter to recharge and Spring to expand our horizons. So, celebrate the Full Moon however it makes you feel most at peace.

Take some time to reflect on the Winter’s teachings and the things you hope to leave behind as a way to honor the Worm Moon. The next step is to make a springtime manifesto list of all your desires.

How about some goals that you can keep in mind going forward?

What are some simple things you can do to get closer to your objectives?

Imagine your perfect future as you meditate, and then see it blossom in the coming season.

Blessed Full Moon!!!
