7 Things That Show You Are Not Being Yourself

1. You associate yourself with your image

We live in a society where pretension is an important part of our everyday life. We pretend because we want to look better than what we are. But in this process of pretending, there comes a point in our lives, when we forget who we truly are and we become the pretension that we are projecting to the outside world. So, if you are not being yourself, you will reach a point where you won’t be able to distinguish between your true Self and your image.

2. Your memory isn’t as sharp as it used to be

When we try too hard to be what we are not, we really have to remember a lot of details of the person we are trying to be. This means that we have to really focus on the person we are creating out of ourselves and in this process sometimes we tend to fabricate details and stories. What this affects is our memory because we are living multiple lives at the same time. How can we possibly cope up with all of them?

3. You freak out over small things

When you are pretending to be what you are not, you have a lot of pressure on you. Under this pressure, you are bound to snap and freak out or worry about small things and issues. This is also because sometimes people, who pretend, tend to be overthinkers and this causes them to stress about trivial issues.

4. You party much too often

Well, if you are pretending to be someone you are not, you want to be liked more and in order to be liked more, you have to spend time with the people around you. This will surely lead you to live an unhealthy life which won’t be good for you. Maybe, by the time you realize this, it would be too late.

5. You are afraid of change

Your adaptability to change is very, very less. This is because you have created an image of yourself and you want to abide by that image because you think you are liked because of that image. Thus, if changes happen around you, they make you uncomfortable because you will have to change yourself in a certain way as well which is obviously a huge task for you.  

6. You ignore your gut feeling

You are so overwhelmed by the different kinds of lives and personas that you have that you rarely have time to listen to your intuition or your gut feeling. You constantly keep ignoring it as if doesn’t exist but maybe you shouldn’t. Tap into your intuition and it will surely help you out of a lot of difficult situations.

7. You run and hide from difficult emotions 

You already have so much on your plate with the pretensions and the various ‘people’ that you are. So, you reduce your workload by not dealing with the difficult emotions around you. This is not exactly good for you because in order to have authentic bonds or relationships, one needs to learn to deal with difficult emotions. Moreover, if you would learn to deal with difficult emotions, you won’t have to be the person you are not because by pretending to be the person that you aren’t, you are escaping from the realities of life.

So, if you are not being yourself, let the facade go. It isn’t worth it. Let the real you shine as much as you can because that is the surest way to happiness.
