What we are about to witness in June 2020 will not be happening for the next 9 years!

In the days between the 5th of June and the 5th of July, that is one Lunar Month, we will be witnessing two Penumbral Lunar Eclipses and one Annular Solar Eclipse.

A Lunar Month is the time between 2 successive Full or New Moons. We are moving into the second Eclipse season of the year, and the Summer Solstice is also approaching. The last time we witnessed 3 Eclipses in one Eclipse season was in 2018.

The Three Eclipses

5th June 2020: Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, which will be visible from Africa, west & central Asia, the Middle East, and Australia.

21st June 2020: Annular Solar Eclipse, which will be visible from Africa, Europe, and Asia.

5th July 2020: Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, which will be visible from both Americas, Western Europe, and Africa.

What Are Eclipses?

A Lunar Eclipse is what we observe when a Full Moon comes under the shadow of our planet. This cuts off the sunlight that gets reflected off the Moon. Lunar Eclipses are usually visible to the entire half of the planet under the night sky.

A Solar Eclipse is observed when the Moon is between our planet and the Sun, blocking sunlight on Earth. Partial or Full, Solar Eclipses are visible in a select few areas at a time, and you need to wear protective goggles to view it safely.

A Penumbral Eclipse happens when the Moon enters the outer edge of the shadow cast by Earth, the Penumbra. This makes the Moon appear darker slightly. The effect can be so minimal that often a Penumbral Eclipse cannot be spotted with naked eyes.

The upcoming Solar Eclipse will take place just after the Summer Solstice, and will be more captivating than the Lunar Eclipse.

As the Sun will line up perfectly with the Moon’s orbit, a magnificent annular ‘ring of fire’ will be visible. Peaking at 12:10am UTC, the Solar Eclipse on 21st June will last for around 3 hours 20 minutes.

Soon after the Solstice, a New Moon will position itself before the Sun on the 21st. The Annular Eclipse will take place on the night of 20th and 21st June, so North and South America will be fast asleep when this happens.

Eclipse Timings

21st June 2020- 3:46 UTC: Partial Solar Eclipse first begins

21st June 2020- 4:48 UTC: Annular Eclipse first begins

21st June 2020- 6:40 UTC: Greatest or maximum Eclipse

21st June 2020- 8:32 UTC: Annular Eclipse finally ends

21st June 2020- 9:34 UTC: Partial Solar Eclipse finally ends

Summer Solstice

As we reach the halfway mark of the calendar year, the Summer Solstice is here to indicate the change of seasons. In the Northern Hemisphere, the longest day of the year also signifies the approach of Winter. This is a very significant day across many cultures and also in Astrology.

All sensitive souls are feeling the shift in the air. The energy from this Solstice makes most of us very unstable. We will struggle with clarity and awareness of personal standing. We will be moving on from old patterns, and many old relationships will fall apart to make place for new ones.

Once the energy wave passes, we will feel more grounded, and we can reflect on the changes it has brought. This will give us the strength to make life-changing decisions rationally in the days to come.
