If you are an empath, you know how overwhelming it can get dealing with others’ emotions daily. You want to help them, you want to be there for them, but you cannot take the burden on yourself.
You have to take care of your well being so that you can help more people. You have to stop letting their emotions affect yours. In order to get out of the gloom and doom, here are 10 ways to stay happy.
1. Alone Time To Recharge
Highly sensitive people like empaths get overwhelmed with their reactive nervous system. This is why you need to find some alone time daily to cope with it all. Find your corner, disconnect from the rest, and recharge yourself. Take care of yourself, and then take care of others.
2. Nature Therapy
When you are surrounded by humans and their problems, it can remove you from nature. Make time to absorb the healing energies of nature. Go to your nearby park or take a stroll by the stream. Enjoy the wind rushing in your face as you take a break.
3. Connect Via Conversations
Talking to others while trying to help them is one thing. But empaths need deep and meaningful conversations, just like everyone else. Empaths think more deeply about the world around them and a lot of it can remain stuck inside. Find someone to share those thoughts.
4. Avoid Energy Vampires
Empaths are all too familiar with energy vampires who can suck the life outta you! They have too many demands and sap your energy and peace of mind. Avoid such toxic people whenever you can. If you have to deal with them, set strong boundaries so that they don’t overwhelm you with their problems.
5. Mindful Practices
If you want to feel energized throughout the day and be your happiest self, start your morning with mindful practices. Be it meditation, journaling, or something else, find what keeps your mind at peace. It will give you the strength to tackle the obstacles throughout the day.
6. Learn To Receive
Empaths give too much away without being comfortable with receiving. You probably don’t want to be a burden to others. But if someone is offering help, don’t say no. Find a balance between helping people and asking and accepting help when offered.
7. Deal With Past Traumas
Empaths and HSPs are more prone to post-traumatic stress. When you feel everything deeply, dealing with sensory overload can be difficult. Often childhood traumas are revealed at a later age, and most people don’t know how to deal with them. You need to release the emotional energy from those traumas.
Some ways to deal with your trauma are journaling about them, revisiting your past mentally and removing the inner child from those situations, expressing yourself freely, setting boundaries in adulthood, being more aware of your triggers, and meditating.
8. Suitable Work Environment
Since a large part of our days is spent at the workplace, it is very important for empaths to be comfortable there. Find a place that fits your personal energy. Your workplace should not be the cause of further stress in your life.
9. Daily Fun Time
Every day, spend some time on your favorite project or hobby. Find something that makes your inner child happy. Make it something outside work or home space. Follow your passion for the sake of it. It will give you a sense of relief and remove you from all the stress for a while.
Self-compassion is the inner strength that will take you through the darkest of days. Don’t beat yourself up for the things you cannot control in others’ lives. Acknowledge what is causing you trouble, give it the validation it deserves, then work on self-compassion. Treat yourself as you would a child. You need to be your strength, just as you are for many others.
Outside your empathy work, find people who accept you as you are. Fill every area of your life with as much positive and flowing energy as possible. Some dark days will come and go. But if you have the happiness and strength within, you can survive them all with a smile!
