Most of us probably found ourselves in a situation to please others. We do things for people that we actually don’t want to do, we accept opinions that we don’t believe in, and we allow others to treat as bad just to keep the peace. We sacrifice our happiness for someone else to be happy. But no one actually is.
What you do for other people may look noble and generous, but there are situations in life when you need to stand up for yourself and your needs. Below you can read when.
1. When you’re passionate about something
It’s really difficult to stand still and listen somebody talking against what you firmly believe in. However, you still do it often because you don’t want to make a scene or because you believe that if you disagree it won’t change anything.
But if you believe in something passionately, you have to make it clear to others why you stand up for those ideals. There’s a chance you won’t change other people’s opinions, but you will definitely change the direction of the conversation.
2.When you have a clear goal
You have probably been in a situation to do a favor for someone else that’s in a direct conflict with the goal you had set for yourself. and its natural that first instinctive reaction would be to help others, but even though it’s noble, it can deter you from the important things in life.
Always keep an eye on things that are essential to you – things that provide a happy life. Sometimes it’s unavoidable to say No to others in order to say Yes to yourself and stay on the path that leads to accomplishment of your goals. By doing this you stand up for those important things.
3. When you were being bullied
Bullying happens everywhere. Every time someone decides you need to do or think something in a certain way, you become a victim of bullying.
Of course, it has a harmful effect on your well-being. You need to learn to stand up for yourself and others by not letting the loudest and most persistent person to control the outcome of any situation.
4. When you need to “protect” your time
Time is one of the most valuable things you possess, and once you give it away you can get it back.
Time is necessary to do all the things that matter to you. You also need time for the people you love, to do things that lead to accomplishing your goals and so on. Don’t full yourself by thinking you have a lot of it.
Use it carefully and be aware that it’s completely okay to protect it.
5. When you needs to set some boundaries
Some people don’t respect and understand the boundaries about what’s acceptable for a person and what’s not.
It’s really important to show people where your limits are.
When you have a clear picture of your boundaries and limits, it’s easier to stand up and defend yourself from negative influences.
