We all know what compassion means by definition, but a mobile phone video that went viral some time ago shows us what compassion looks like put into practice.
I have to say that this video restored my faith in humanity. It’s probably been a while since I last witnessed anything similar.
Once again, the short clip demonstrates the power of social media because it became the inspiration behind an avalanche of good deeds that started by this guy’s humble gesture.
It definitely made me want to be a better person.
It was a moment when a man took the shirt of his back and gave it to homeless, shivering man. This shows how powerful is the social media to spread these good news.
Joey Resto is a 23-year-old man with gigantic heart. One night he was on the Downtown A train when he spotted a homeless, helpless man. Other passengers were standing few seats away because of his odor, but Resto went straight to him and immediately gave him the shirt off his back.
Resto says: “It was freezing that night. He looked cold and hungry.”
Joey takes the shirt off and gives it to the poor shivering man, but he soon realizes the man can’t put it on by himself, so he helps him get dressed. Then he gave him his hat too, so he can get a bit warmer.
“He looked so weak and frail. I had to help him, or he would not put it on,” Resto sad.
What Resto wasn’t aware was that another guy took a video of him doing the generous move and posted in on Facebook. From that point it has gone viral and spread around the entire world.
“I thought, wonderful thing he did, because we have to help others in need,” says the mother of Resto’s girfriend, Annie Martinez.
“The fact that he gave clothes off his back so they could be warm, I thought was pretty great,” said Resto’s girlfriend, Yanisleidy Martinez.
Resto invited the homeless man to his apartment in Brooklyn to give him more clothes and something to eat. But as soon as he got the hat and shirt, he curled up and went to sleep almost immediately.
Resto’s biggest hopes are to inspire as many people as possible to help others who are experiencing hard time in life.
