How Souls Choose Their Parents and Families

by consciousreminder

Years before my baby girl was born, I had a dream that I had a daughter. She came to me and gave me a hug, told me I was her mother, and told me her name was Evelyn.

That dream imprinted on my memory and my heart. So much so that when I found out I was pregnant, I knew I was carrying a girl, and she had already told me her name: Evelyn. Meaning wished for child, which couldn’t be more true!

In order to evolve, our souls come to Earth more than once.  I know that as I’ve grown and changed and learned about soul contracts and reincarnation, my thoughts and beliefs have gravitated to this notion.  For those of you who are on the fence about reincarnation, I invite to you to explore the idea that a soul is born into a (different) body for many lifetimes.

It is my belief that once a soul has made the decision to have (another) earthly incarnation, the first step is to decide on what kind of life they want. This is contingent upon what lessons they wish to learn. This involves being matched with a parent or set of parents. This process really depends on the soul’s purpose and desire for specific lessons and lifestyle.

For example,  if two souls had been together before perhaps as a mother and daughter set, then they might wish to relive that experience again or perhaps relive it in reverse, so the daughter becomes the mother in the new lifetime. Sometimes the soul wishes to incarnate in a particular part of the world, and the choice will be less specific to the individual parent.  As diverse as people are, so are our souls and what we wish to create and experience in our lifetime(s).

Once this connection to a potential parent is made, the soul then creates a connection to that person and is present around their energy, waiting to be born at the right time. When I do intuitive readings for clients, I often see the souls of their unborn children waiting for them. I can usually tell if the child is a boy or a girl, and may also get a sense of what they are meant to experience together in this lifetime.

The book Spirit Babies: How to Communicate with the Child You’re Meant to Have is a collection of stories from an intuitive gentleman who spent decades connecting parents with their unborn children. When I do a reading, I cannot guarantee I’ll pick up information about potential unborn children, but more often than not, I do ‘see’ them if they are with you and going to be joining your family in the future.

Of course, parents also have significant influence as to which soul joins their family through conception. Our daily thoughts, desires and purposes create a beacon for souls who respond to these energies. This is particularly true of the mother. According to the Edgar Cayce readings, a woman’s daily activities and inner thoughts during the gestation period create a field much like a magnet would, attracting souls to the field of opportunity life as her child would offer.

As far as families with more than one child, souls also make soul contract/agreements with potential siblings. The energy field and desire of the mother and the souls wanting to incarnate combine to make the decision as to who is born first. I like to imagine my sisters and I floating in the Ether on the “Other Side” deciding to go first, and I in my oldest child splendor and glory pushed through and said, “Me first, of course!” In the case of miscarriage, I’ve noticed that particular soul often comes in through a later pregnancy if the opportunity is presented. I’ve also seen one instance where the miscarried child from a woman went on to be born into her best friend’s family.

I’ve done readings for folks who have shared a myriad of past lives with the same group of souls – soul groups – all taking turns being siblings, parents and children. One thing I’m certain after doing hundreds of readings is…we certainly do choose our family members, the location we will incarnate, and the different life events that will take place. It is empowering and so very touching for me to know my family members and I chose each other. I feel especially honored that my daughter chose me. What a gift she has given me in this lifetime.

Do you believe souls choose our parents? Do you have any stories of children (or you) remembering past lives and connections in them?

I’m curious about kids being adopted and not being raised the the family they were born into. Also about childless by choice folks? This article doesn’t address that.

From what I’ve learned, adoption is often planned too. All souls involved are aware of the arrangement and agree to it beforehand. The child often has a desire to learn from the initial abandonment and everyone else is learning and growing from the experience too.

i was going to ask that too. being i am an adoptee. and I’m just now after 50 years trying to get past it . its been a messed up emotional mental mind f*&^ . I hope i never have to do it again .

I, too, am curious about adopted children. How could I have picked these parents?

Priyanka March 18, 2017 - 3:53 am

If a soul choose its parents then why would someone like to take birth in a homeless or poor family or in a war prone area? Why would they want to suffer by choice?

Gracie June 11, 2017 - 6:22 pm

The suffering brings the lessons as needed. It could also be that in a previous life they caused suffering so they need the lesson of how it feels to create the compassion needed for the soul to evolve.

I believe it’s because they want to succeeed in spite of these huge challenges. They believe they can do it. They are our most courageous spirits.

I too had a dream when my girlfriend was pregnant with my son. I couldn’t decide on a name to give him. Then I had dream where he introduce himself to me. I could also see what he will look like as a baby and a toddler.

this article was posted on my soulmates birthday lol 🙂 between then and now, we shared a ‘vision’ when we hugged once, then like a week later he had a dream of his perspective of the day. we both saw a 2 on a princess cake and purple in the background. it was just like a still image, that was freaky enough. then in his dream he saw her wearing my hat, & Her name was luci or lucy. i asked him how it was spellt and he said he she had taken a small a little handful of icing to eat as he was walking over towards the cake. so it said “happy birthday luc” lmao i always wanted to name my daughter lucifer, luci for short, now this happens lmao i didnt know i was serious ?? lol so thats my story. c:

I’ve recently been feeling like my daughter is the older version of myself if that makes any sense. To me, she seems like an older soul and I’m the kid here lol the way she talks, thinks and acts sometimes I’m just like dam you’re acting like an adult! And she’s only 10! But ever since she was born, I’ve felt like she was meant for me.. Like literally. She was born on my birthday. She’s 10 and I’m 30. The last digit of our age match and the last digit of our year match! On top of that, she has the same birthmarks that I have on the same places I have them at. Ive always felt that she was born to save me. And now when I’m sick or feeling down she always wants to take care of me. It really makes me feel like I’m a little kid lol and also people , for some reason, think we’re sisters. So maybe she was either my mom or older sister from the past last life? It’s so weird to me but also an amazing feeling of knowing she chose me to be her mother.

My son doesn’t believe me when I tell him he told me his name when I was pregnant with him. Also, a psychic told me my children always come into life as a brother and sister pair. Once when my daughter was annoying her brother to no end, he said “Mary, be quiet!” No, she is not even close to being named Mary in this life!

Amy June 11, 2017 - 8:35 am

I too have always believed in soul contracts. This belief has made it easier to come to terms with my daughters estrangement from my side of the family, including myself, when she was 17. Obviously she has lessons she chose to work on that was dependent on abandoning the ones that have loved and supported her the most. My job was to be a part of her first 16 years of her life and give her a foundation. That was a gift

I had a vision once in meditation where my grandma carried a baby over to me and she told me she was mine and I got a big flash of pink I later found out I was pregnant I knew instantly it was a girl I named her rileigh she’s my 4th baby and I wondered if all my other kids I now have 5 if they were all handed to me as gifts from loved ones in spirit aswell but I guess she chose me and I chose her ? my grandma was maybe helping her present herself or it the only way I would believe what I saw ☺️ great article

Do the souls of abused children pick their home? I doubt this..while I would like to believe this article is true I find it hard to believe a soul (baby) would choose to be sexually or physically abused. What is the reasoning for this? People always look at the good side but there are plenty of children out there who didn’t “pick” this life and are suffering daily. Did they choose this? No.

Wendy October 13, 2017 - 11:21 pm

I am one of those. I can say yes I probably did choose to live the exact life I have. I have learned so much. Grown so much. As a spiritual being not just as a person. I do not blame people in my past. They showed me the type of person I would never want to be. I live my life helping all those who are in my path. I stile to make the world a better place. From great suffering comes even greater love, joy, and appreciation for the little joys in life. The breeze of the wind. The quiet of the night. The joy of a sun beam. The smile of a pig. It’s all about perspective. I lived, I survived, I’m a better person for it. I’m sure you understand.

what you might not seem to fully understand…experiences are not good or bad, ther eis no duality where our souls reside, and the choosing they are doing are beyond our understanding of ” how things work” down here. thats why even if someone is born in a Mumbay slum- that was where the soul choose to experience this world. who are we to judge than a life of hardship is worth less than a life of wealth? i saw many more happy looking people in poor areas than i ever did in the so called affluent west. the reason is: contentment. gratefulness. and a will to make things better. i do feel we miss all of that in the western world. but never judge a person by the way she looks or what he/she has to experience. it al just is, and there is never a choice left to chance.

I know someone who would emphatically deny that she “chose” to be born to an abusive mother. She’s 56 now, and has been trying her whole life, to get her mother to love her — to no avail.

Nellia June 11, 2017 - 9:13 pm

Some women should not be mothers if they not able to feel love for a daughter. Those women are incredibly
self-centered undoubtedly something is tremendously wrong with them.

Alex June 12, 2017 - 1:26 am

You can’t make someone love you, that’s impossible, all you can do is love them. I’ve never tried my mum to love me, but I’ve tried to get to understand her and love her. I do believe that growing with abusive parents bring a lot of growth.

Chantal June 11, 2017 - 8:59 pm

Go say that to kids born into families where they are beaten or raped or eventually killed by mom, dad, brother, sister and/or uncle. Pretty sure they didn’t decide that and be depressed and wished they never been born ?

Becca June 12, 2017 - 2:20 am

What about being born into a family where the child feels like a stranger their entire life? Despite how much that individual tries to connect or feel that “family bond” and feels happiest when they finally leave the nest?

I think I was my mother’s grandmother. Never met her as died before I was born. But I saw a picture of her and we have the same eyed.
Can you tell.

When my granddaughter was two years old, she was giggling and looking at me and she giggled and look at me again and I said what you doing? she says “oh I think it’s funny, this time you’re the grandma and I am the girl”.

I recently gave birth to identical twin boys at 18 weeks. They both passed due to twin to twin transfusion syndrome. An energy worker I see said that soul will return to me and she also said that identical twins are one soul that splits. It has got me thinking about twins and soul splitting. What can you tell me about identical twins? If this soul returns will it be again as twins or was that part of the reason they passed?

When I met my husband, (I was divorced and had 2 children in my first marriage.
I had moved out to live in a different area, taking the girls with me.
told me that as soon as I had told them I had met a new fella, that they needed to meet him.I was always interested in reincarnation and healing.etc., so used to go as a single Mum to a meditation centre,
I also started a 2 year ethics and understanding anatomy and physiology to attain a license to be a hands on healer.
A week after I met my present husband, the friends who ran the centre, asked me to bring him into the centre for a cup of tea. I did this when he picked me up after a session., When I went to my next circle, the two guys who ran the sanctuary were very excited, and told me they had both had information from their Spirit guides that Bob & I had been together many lifetimes ago, and had spent many lifetimes searching for each other. We were both thrilled with this revelation, and now been married very happily for 33 years. we are indeed soul mates.

In my experience was during a dream state when I met both of my grandsons. The first dream was about 6 years ago. In this dream I was lifting my grandson up to sit on the counter, with his bright red hair and big smile! I felt that he was 2 or 3 years old and that he was my sons child. This grandchild I speak of has not come to life yet, though I truly feel that he will when the time is right. I mention this to my son once in a while 😉
In another dream just over 4 years ago I met my other grandson, he just turned 4yrs. In this dream I was walking into a hospital room and when I entered I saw baby laying upon one bed and my grandmother laying upon another. Not knowing who the baby was I went to see my grandma because I miss her and after a minute or so she introduced me to my grandson. it was a quick experience but a lasting one. I told my daughter and mother about the dream, then when it was time to announce the gender I of course said boy and they said girl…. well… it was a boy!!
I feel blessed to have met them and would like to mention that I haven’t been able to have children for nearly 20 years just in case anyone thinks the baby was meant for me. When it is said to follow your dreams sometimes they really do come true <3
Thank you for sharing, blessings and love~
