One of the greatest minds of our time, the famous physician Stephen Hawking passed away. May his soul rest in peace… He was certainly a legend in the world of science and his accomplishments will be always remembered in the collective memory of the entire humanity.
However, there is an interesting coincidence(or not!) about the day he died, 14 of March. Hawking passed at the age of 76 in his home in Cambridge. The famous physicist Albert Einstein was born on the same day! Also, the Pi Day is celebrated on this day. Of course, the connection comes from the Pi first digits 3.14. The permanent constant day is celebrated in the USA to honor the physicists’ mathematicians and all scientists who dedicate their lives to the good of humanity.
Hawking made revolutionary progress with his discoveries and completely transformed the way scientists see black holes and stellar systems. He worked very hard and, also, wanted to spread his knowledge and make it available for everybody.
On the other hand, Hawking wasn’t the ‘prototype’ kind of scientist. He was very fun-loving and positive person, despite his suffering. He was always active in the social media, always able for debate and discussion, and he even appeared on the popular TV show The Big Bang Theory.
He is survived by his three children Robert, Tim, and Lucy. They already released a statement calling their father “an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years.”
Other popular physicists also released their statements. Neil De Grasse Tyson said something very interesting on Twitter.
“His passing has left an intellectual vacuum in his wake. But it’s not empty. Think of it as a kind of vacuum energy permeating the fabric of spacetime that defies measure.”
They are absolutely right. This great man will be always alive- his legacy represents immortality and his knowledge and work- huge progress for humanity.
Rest in peace, legend!!!
