In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, all of us are grappling with the devastation it has caused. Preventive measures are crucial during such times.
One of the simple guidelines is wearing a face mask. Unfortunately, as happens with a lot of issues, wearing face masks has become the topic of controversy. In turn, some groups have turned the issue political.
In the viral video, scientist Bill Nye is appealing for people to wear face masks. He puts his classic zest to the explanation while giving out important details.
He said, “so the reason we want you to wear a mask is to protect you, sure. But the main reason we want you to wear a mask is to protect me from you, and the particles from your respiratory system from getting into my respiratory system.”
Nye added, “everybody, this is a matter literally of life and death. And when I use the word literally I mean literally a matter of life and death. So when you’re out in public, please wear a mask.”

As some countries witness a decrease in the number of positive cases, they are easing the lockdowns. Meanwhile, the positive case stats in America refuses to flatten.
Even then, many states are starting to open up their businesses. With a total of 3.24 million positive cases and over 136K deaths, the U.S is one of the hardest hit across the globe.
The CDC, along with WHO, has urged the public to wear face masks whenever they meet anyone other than who they are living with. The coronavirus is highly contagious and spreads mainly through the respiratory system.
A medical expert, Peter Chin-Hong said, “I think there’s enough evidence to say that the best benefit is for people who have COVID-19 to protect them from giving COVID-19 to other people, but you’re still going to get a benefit from wearing a mask if you don’t have COVID-19.”
The CDC has also recommended people social distance at all times and wash or sanitize hands as often as possible.
