The Lungs of the Earth are still burning. Many people, including the Brazilian government, as well as international communities, have joined hands to curb the flames raging through the Amazonia forests.
The forests are responsible for producing about 20% of the Earth’s oxygen and are rightfully referred to as ‘The lungs of the Earth’. But now, it burns and every one of us should try to help.
Many celebrities have come out in the open with their criticism towards the management of the Amazonia forest. It is said that the forests caught fire due to sanctioned forest clearings being done around the zone to create more lands for ranching. Fire was used for the clearing purpose.
While many governments, including the nations in G7, are trying to support the fight against this fire, Leonardo DiCaprio comes forward with his massive help. Earth Alliance, an environmental organization started in July by Leonardo DiCaprio, Laurene Powell Jobs, and Brian Sheth, is lending its hands to tackle the fires in the Amazonia forest. The Earth Alliance donated $5 million to 5 local authorities to help them tackle the situation. The institutions: Coordination of the Indigenous Organizations of the Brazilian Amazon (COIAB), Instituto Kabu (Kayapo), Instituto Socioambiental (ISA), Instituto Raoni (Kayapo), and Instituto Associacao Floresta Protegida (Kayapo) have been asked to deal with the situation.
The Earth Alliance has been formed for the sole purpose of preserving diversity, tackling climate change issues and the stability of Earth.

When DiCaprio got the news of the Amazon burning, he was concerned. He went to Instagram and mentioned how there has been an 84% increase in the fires in Brazil. As per many conservationists, Jair Bolsonaro, the president of Brazil, is indirectly responsible for it as he sanctioned the clearing off of lands and logging projects.

While the situation is dire, DiCaprio does not remove us from a bit of responsibility too. As the Amazon burns, he calls for our conscience. How are we to help? We can support the Rainforest Alliance – an organization that tries to keep deforestation down and tries controlling forest fires. We should also be conscious of what we are consuming. We should encourage more producers using sustainable and responsible supply chains and cut off those who don’t engage in such practices. Much of the lands were being cleared for ranching or cattle-keeping, so we should really think about beef consumption and how it is affecting our planet. When it comes to Voting, we must vote consciously for people with forward-thinking policies, having our planet’s well-being in their mind and policies.
Finally, we can share this story and keep it on top of all our social media circles and the news. Let #PrayforAmazonia and hope we can go down sustainable roads soon.
