The Impact of the Lunar Cycle on Women

It is common knowledge that the bodies and emotions of women are influenced by a great deal of factors that are beyond our control.

Studies have shown that the moon, which is a satellite of the earth and revolves around us in a cycle that lasts for 29.5 days and is located thousands of miles away, is one of these influences.

During the course of each month, the lunar cycle transitions from a full moon to a new moon, moving itself in a variety of positions and influencing our emotions, sexual desires, and even our propensity to have children, according to the beliefs of some scientists.

Menstrual cycles

Everyone knows that the moon influences ocean tides, but did you know that your menstrual cycle also has an effect?

Despite the fact that the majority of claims regarding the impact of the lunar cycle on menstruation are speculative, numerous investigations have sought to establish a link between the two.

A study conducted by Winnifred B. Cutler in the 1980s and published in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology examined 312 menstruating university women. Forty percent of the women in her study started menstruating within two weeks of the full moon, indicating that they ovulated during the “dark phase,” or the part of the moon cycle when it isn’t visible from Earth.

The menstrual cycle of 69 of the women in the study was 29.5 days long, matching the length of the lunar cycle.

The euphemism “moon time” has been around for a long time, according to OB/GYN Dr. Christian Northrup. Menstruation cycles of women who lived in clans would coincide with each other’s and the moon’s cycles.

Evolution has made it such that we can experience the lunar cycle’s physiological effects regardless of our exposure to the moon or whether we live in a female-dominated cohort.

Emotions

The lunar cycle “energizes the collective unconscious,” according to Sioux Rose’s Moon Dance: The Feminine Dimensions of Time, which she claims has an immediate effect on our emotions. She implies that the lunar cycle is related to our emotions, and that by paying attention to how we fit into the bigger picture, we can cultivate a “this too shall pass” mentality.

She claims that you can learn to predict your emotional state on any given day by becoming accustomed to relating your moods with the lunar cycle. She suggests monitoring the moon’s movement daily and maintaining a diary of emotions.

There is a deep lunar method to the great cosmic “madness,” she says, and you will see it for yourself that moods are not accidental.

Sexual influence

According to Michael Ra Bouchard, a licensed clinical sexologist who provides telephone counseling out of Hawaii, our sexual desires and inclinations are impacted by the phases of the moon.

He explains this phenomenon in his article “What Everyone Needs to Know About Women’s Mooncycles,” stating that it explains why some women experience surges of intense sexual energy followed by periods of feeling less hot and completely disinterested in sexual matters.

He suggests keeping track of how much tumescence, or “fullness,” you experience every month. While this sensation is most prominent in the days leading up to your period, it is present at varying intensities throughout the lunar cycle.

Indicators of the moon’s influence during a full moon, according to him, include increased emotions and sexual desire, difficulty or unwillingness to make simple decisions, feelings of insecurity, a desire for sticky or gooey foods, a subtle musky smell coming from the body, and dark circles under the eyes. It’s important to keep track of these things.

He claims that some women deal with the “fullness” sensation by engaging in sexual activity, whether solo or with a partner, or by engaging in physical activity. Also, he discovered that doing all the things you do when you have premenstrual syndrome (PMSing)—crying, eating, and pampering yourself—helps with the release.

Therefore, allow yourself the opportunity to learn about the moon and its potential effects on your body. Your personal psychological, physiological, and emotional inquiries may be resolved.
