An emotional roller coaster in mind, body, and spirit. Expect all the feels.

The new Moon in Cancer on July 17, 2023, will send our mind, body, and spirit on an emotional roller coaster. Cancer makes us feel. Cancer season ushers in a period of slowing down, patience, and feeling. Cancer Season is all about slowing down long enough to feel the emotions we’ve been avoiding for so long. It’s a time to be gentle with ourselves, to nourish our souls, and to feel safe in the presence of our own emotions.

What the New Moon in Cancer Means for You

Cancer is the zodiac’s first water sign. It produces water energy. Cancer reminds us that we have the ability to generate emotional waves that can change our lives and the lives of those around us. The foundation for healing is at the heart of Cancer. Cancer teaches us the importance of self-healing, restoration, and replenishment. We must be willing to feel in order to receive these gifts. Cancer’s energy provides us with everything we need to feel. We must feel in order to hear our intuition. We must have feelings in order to help others. We must feel in order to evolve into the next version of ourselves. Much of what we want to manifest begins with feelings.

This new Moon in Cancer helps us understand our emotions in relation to our intentions and how they influence their manifestation. We will have a difficult time manifesting our visions if we do not believe they are already happening or can become a reality. It’s time to channel your energy into your visions in order to embody them, feel for any impediments, and begin to materialize them.

Receiving information from yourself, your intuition, and the Universe is also a part of it. Your Higher Self is linked to wisdom that goes beyond the present moment. You have access to the Universe’s infinite knowledge, including everything that has happened in the past and will happen in the future. There is no end to what your intuition already knows. Any questions you have about your future path are already answered in your intuition this Moon. Your job is to find those answers, listen to them, and believe them.

Set aside any urges to act or do as you work with this new Moon. This Moon is receiving. Accept what you already know and allow it to guide you to your goals.

Other Astrological Aspects Influencing the New Moon in Cancer

Because this is a highly aspected new Moon, many luminary vibrations are emphasized on this day. Return to your breath and body to calm your energy if you are experiencing internal or external chaos.

The new Moon in Cancer opposes Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto teaches us about our past traumas and pain. It reveals parts of our soul that are unhealed and require healing. It also shows where we have lost or given away our power. As you sit with the vibrations of the new Moon, consider whether you have lost some of your power. Did a previous event take it away from you? Do you expend too much energy trying to forget or suppress the past?

Our energy follows where our attention goes. When we are engrossed in the past and its events, our energy is depleted. We are directing our energy toward the situation or cycle that has caused us trauma rather than using it to manifest our intentions.

Take note of where your thoughts go when you let them wander. When you sit with old pain, pay attention to the emotions that arise. Are you still in pain? You can feel pain but not be affected by it. You may never be able to change the past, but you can remove their ability to contain you. Feel your power returning to you. Consider whether you require healing work to put the past behind you.

This new Moon in Cancer also has a relationship with Neptune in Pisces. Neptune assists us in accessing our deeper dreams, which we may be afraid to pursue. When a dream is simply a fantasy, it can be more exciting. When we begin to shape it, it takes on a different shape—one that may not be the desired outcome at first. Some dreams are simply part of the process of determining what we truly desire.

Feel into which dreams you want to bring detail to and which ones just provide space for new dreams to emerge as the Moon forms a trine with Neptune. What visions are just fantasies that make you feel good or give you hope, and which ones do you want to work hard to make a reality?

Pieces of old patterns dissolve as the new Moon forms a sextile with Uranus in Taurus. Uranus disintegrates energy and shifts stagnant vibrations to make way for something new. This new Moon in Cancer is full of healing energy, and part of healing is letting go of old beliefs, habits, and even comfort zones. Our pain can become a safe haven, and we may not know who we are without it. Because we are afraid of the unknown, we may hold on to our pain for too long and allow it to shape our future.

This interaction with Uranus can also assist us in identifying patterns that drain our energy. Perhaps we expend too much energy on others, or we seek validation from outside ourselves to validate what we already know. On this New Moon, take note of any patterns that cause you to look outside of yourself. Do you give your energy to others in any way? Would a shift in perspective help you reclaim your power, or is it because you don’t believe in yourself? Begin to seek answers and alter your energy exchange with those around you.

Finally, on this day, the lunar nodes change signs for the next eighteen months. The North Node moves from Taurus to Aries, and the South Node moves from Scorpio to Libra. The nodes are very active today, influencing the energy of the new Moon. With the North Node in Aries, our attention is drawn inward. This vibration assists us in prioritizing our soul’s purpose and mission. With the South Node in Libra, the emphasis is on letting go of relationships that distract us from our goals and observing how we exchange energy with others.

The nodes changing signs adds even more energy to the theme of this new Moon, which is to empower yourself to heal, break free from limiting patterns, and shift relationships that drain your energy. Your relationship with your pain is also one of these relationships. Feel the nodes shift signs, highlighting energy within you that activates your inner compass. Your intuition knows where your soul is going. It’s time to walk the walk.

Your Invitation

The last three months have been a whirlwind of activity. They brought you new beginnings and new perspectives, as well as lessons about yourself that you had forgotten. The Cancer season is a time to settle into ourselves and allow the body to heal.

Suppressed emotions are frequently held in our muscles and connective tissue, which contributes to feelings of emotional attachment. We must release the body and the energy it contains in order for emotions to flow freely. Longer holds are used in Yin Yoga than in other types of yoga. Holding postures allows you to relax into the pose and allow your body to fully release. Concentrate on your breathing and use it to keep your mind centered as your body releases tension. Use props as well during this sequence. We are more likely to release and let go of tension when we have physical or mental support.

Feel into any past pain or energy drains that are causing you to miss your soul’s path on this new Moon. Instead, sit with your emotions, listen to your intuition, and make the necessary changes to reclaim your energy, power, and the life you know you were born to live.
