A full moon in optimistic Sagittarius and a new moon in mentally active Gemini are scheduled for June 2023, keeping us moving!

What is a Full Moon?

A full moon occurs when the transiting (moving) Sun and Moon are in exactly opposite positions in the Zodiac (this is known as an opposition). Full moons are associated with endings, climaxes, and emotional energy.

What is a New Moon?

A new moon occurs when the transiting (moving) Sun and Moon are in the same Zodiac sign (called a conjunction). New moons are associated with beginnings, are full of energy, and are enthusiastic.

Full Moon in Sagittarius: June 3rd/4th 2023 (11:41PM ET/05:41AM GMT)

Full moons are usually emotional and serious, but because Sagittarius is an optimistic sign that prefers to focus on the positives, Sagittarius full moons aren’t as serious as others. This is especially true after the Scorpio lunar eclipse, which is as serious as they come, and we can open our minds and work on being less brooding and more open to the good in our lives. This has the potential to broaden our minds and provide us with new perspectives.

With the Sagittarius full moon, we can feel strongly connected to what we believe, which can help us become more invested in the beliefs that connect with who we are now. If our beliefs aren’t true to our current selves or are harmful to us in some way, the full moon can challenge us to break free and examine how this hasn’t been beneficial to us. We can choose something that speaks to us right now and is better for us.

With the Sagittarius full moon, we may crave more space to do our own thing because Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter and loves space. We must, however, proceed in a healthy and productive manner, or we risk pushing people away and being unable to recover later. We must be careful not to simply lash out, but to think things through. It could be a good time for a little adventure, and life experience can teach us a lot.

Because Sagittarius is a travel ruler, there may be a greater emphasis on long-distance travel in some way. Because Sagittarius rules higher education, we can concentrate on colleges and universities in some way. Because Sagittarius rules the law, we may be focusing on an important legal ruling or case around the full moon.

At 13 degrees 18 minutes Sagittarius, the full moon occurs.

The full moon has the following aspects:

  • Conjunction: 11 degrees 18 minutes – 15 degrees 18 minutes Sagittarius
  • Sextile: 11 degrees 18 minutes – 15 degrees 18 minutes Libra or Aquarius
  • Square: 11 degrees 18 minutes – 15 degrees 18 minutes Virgo or Pisces
  • Trine: 11 degrees 18 minutes – 15 degrees 18 minutes Aries or Leo
  • Opposition: 11 degrees 18 minutes – 15 degrees 18 minutes Gemini

New Moon in Gemini: June 18th 2023 (12:37AM ET/6:37AM GMT)

The Gemini new moon stimulates our minds greatly, allowing us to focus on new ideas, plans, and activities. We can fill our calendars and be far more engaging. This can be an excellent time for communication, conversation, and fully and openly expressing ourselves.

Because Gemini is the mind sign, we can use our mental abilities and benefit from using our minds. We may decide to learn something new, share our knowledge and information, and connect mentally.

This new moon is broadly square (challenging aspect, three signs away) Ceres at the end of Virgo (exits June 22nd 2023), and is anaretic in Virgo. Every Zodiac sign has 30 degrees, with 29 degrees being the final degree and known as the anaretic degree. It’s a critical energy transit point.

Ceres is a dwarf planet that rules nourishment and support, so we’re probably extra focused on nourishment, support, resources, and finances right now, what we’re lacking and in need of, and this new moon may test us. We may need to take a different approach or stop focusing on what’s missing and instead concentrate on how we can make better use of what we already have. We may lack support for our ideas and must find alternative means of communicating our message.

We may also feel extra stressed with this new moon, and we must ensure that we are managing this in a healthy manner, or we may become burned out and anxious.

At 26 degrees 43 minutes Gemini, the new moon occurs.

The new moon has the following aspects:

  • Conjunction: 24 degrees 49 minutes – 28 degrees 43 minutes Gemini
  • Sextile: 24 degrees 49 minutes – 28 degrees 43 minutes Aries or Leo
  • Square: 24 degrees 49 minutes – 28 degrees 43 minutes Virgo or Pisces
  • Trine: 24 degrees 49 minutes – 28 degrees 43 minutes Libra or Aquarius
  • Opposition: 24 degrees 49 minutes – 28 degrees 43 minutes Sagittarius
