This has been a summer of retrogrades…

Jupiter (known as The Greater Benefic) is the final planet to glide backwards across the sky this season, beginning on September 4 and lasting until December 30. Jupiter is considered an extremely lucky planet in astrology, even when it is retrograde.

If you want to broaden your mind, travel the world, place bets, or take a chance in any situation, Jupiter is the primary planet for granting us access to these amazing possibilities. Jupiter is also known for its positive energy and upbeat attitude. When Jupiter is active, the world is your oyster, and the sky is the limit.

Jupiter takes a full year to transit each constellation: every 12 years, it completes a cycle around each zodiac sign. Jupiter retrograde occurs only once a year for approximately four months. While the planet of expansion and growth isn’t a frequent retrograde walker, the annual retrograde is significant for this philosophical celestial body. Jupiter is currently in the sign of Taurus, so we can expect Jupiter to exaggerate and highlight the elements of the Bullish sign. Yes, the same vibe exists when Jupiter is retrograde, except we proceed with a little more caution.

Jupiter’s retrograde motion encourages us to think before we act. Jupiter has been peacefully wandering in the sign of Taurus since May 16, so we haven’t been putting the cart before the horse (usually Jupiter transits push us to do the opposite). We haven’t been wearing our hearts on our sleeves, making extreme declarations, or taking financial risks, and we’ve planned our vacations rather than winging it in a foreign city. On the other hand, our creativity has been on fire, our desire to connect intimately with others is strong, and it’s been difficult to understand another perspective — especially when it contradicts ours. When the retrograde begins, all of these feelings will be reflected on a deeper and broader level.

We’ll be rethinking financial investments, relationships, artistic endeavors, and how we take care of ourselves now that Jupiter is retrograde in Taurus and asking us to take our time before diving headfirst into matters. As we begin to notice that others have taken precedence in our personal lives, we will recognize the importance of decadence, indulgence, and self-care. Because the zodiac sign Taurus likes to work hard and rest hard, rest and relaxation are essential components of this transit. However, this does not preclude you from having a good time. Play time will not be limited (a sentiment shared by Jupiter retrograde in Taurus), but it will be something we find ourselves doing more of at this time, which is why it’s critical to spend the extra energy pampering ourselves.

We should try to read between the lines, as with any retrograde. Respecting other people’s boundaries (and maintaining our own) can be difficult. However, we must acknowledge that we cannot ignore the wishes and needs of those we care about. This also entails accepting that we will not always get our way and letting go of our stubbornness.  Learning to adapt to new situations isn’t a bad thing, and it’s all the more reason why we should keep an open mind, be less rigid, and go with the flow right now, even if it’s extremely difficult.

The one thing to be wary of is trusting people before they’ve earned it, as this could lead to us missing red flags. Instead of overthinking things, go with your gut instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s time to let it go — at least for the time being. Transfer to the next best thing and concentrate on it for the duration of the retrograde.
